This Opportunity

The Assistant Vice President, Environmental Compliance supports company environmental compliance and is an integral part of the overall HSEQ team, promoting an environmental excellence culture, pursuing continuous improvement, and positioning the company with employees and clients as a leader in environmental performance.

This position supports building environmental commitment, awareness, and competencies within the business and its people, driving environmental compliance performance, and in achieving environmental targets and plans. This position is preferred to be based out of any of our Midwest, Texas/Louisiana, Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, or Southeast USA offices, but open to considering other WSP office locations.

Your Impact

+ Implement environmental compliance standards, procedures, and training programs, aligning with WSP policies and industry best practices and trends.

+ Support Service Lines with environmental events reporting program, including incident reporting, response, investigation, and data analysis to identify points of improvement.

+ Support operations and Facilities in implementing effective risk controls, monitoring and reporting.

+ Coach project teams on identifying project environmental risks and developing and implementing project environmental management plans.

+ Approve project environmental risk management plans and support development of appropriate controls and mitigations.

+ Oversee, educate, and support business operations and facilities in waste management protocols, standards, and training needs.

+ Manage components of the project environmental risk management program, including improving risk identification at the opportunity and execution stages, and providing the businesses with environmental compliance risk management tools and training.

+ Perform and document, as needed, root cause analysis, lessons learned / best practice reviews to support continuous improvement initiatives

+ Work collaboratively with environmental compliance experts within the HSEQ team and broader organization to facilitate implementation of the environmental program.

+ Facilitate key competency development within the HSEQ and extended team to address environmental compliance priorities.

+ Support the contractor prequalification and performance monitoring program.

+ Remain current with new and changing environmental regulatory/legislative requirements and emerging issues/trends, while initiating action to ensure programs, policies and practices are compliant.

+ Participate with the HSEQ Center of Innovation to address environmental compliance aspects of project audits.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

+ Relevant undergraduate degree or equivalent experience.

+ At least 10 years of experience in an environmental compliance roles.

+ Experience in developing, implementing, and managing environmental standards, procedures, and guidance.

+ Experience in project environmental risk assessment and risk management plans, including managing subcontractor environmental risks.

+ Knowledge and experience in environmental compliance and reporting requirements and regulations.

+ Knowledge and experience in waste management, and pollution prevention regulatory requirements and best practices, including RCRA and CERCLA.

+ Experience in Environmental incident response, reporting, investigation, and training.

+ Ability to quickly establish credibility and build effective relationships.

+ Highly collaborative, with the proven ability to form, facilitate and maintain cross-business teams.

+ Excellent interpersonal communication and influencing skills with ability to communicate well with many levels of the organization.

+ Working knowledge of HSEQ integrated systems.

Preferred Qualifications

+ Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)

+ Certified Environmental Manager (CEM)

+ ISO 140001 training

+ Experience in compliance and/or systems auditing

Other Requirements

+ Travel up to 40%

+ Ability to drive

Compensation: $104,200 – $185,680

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.

Expected Salary (Colorado only): $104,200 – $174,240
