Job Description

Position Summary

Brookfield Properties has an immediate need for a Senior Accountant to join our Financial Reporting team located in the corporate office in downtown Chicago.

The primary responsibilities of this role will be assisting in the preparation/review of consolidated financial statements for public, lender and joint venture reporting under both a GAAP and IFRS basis. This role will present opportunities to work on unique/complex transactions requiring technical accounting assessments and cross-department coordination.

Responsibilities

+ Reports directly to the Senior Manager of Financial Reporting.

+ Assist in the preparation and review of consolidated financial statements for reporting to our parent entity and third parties, which includes balance sheet, income statement, cash flows and other supporting schedules.

+ Assist in the preparation and review of footnotes and disclosures required in our quarterly and annual reporting to bondholders.

+ Coordinate with other groups with the Accounting Department, as well as Finance, Tax, Capital Markets, Investments and Legal to manage reporting solutions.

+ Manage and coach staff accountants by delegating work and reviewing finished products to ensure they meet stated deadlines.

+ Assist in performing technical research on significant transactions including preparation of the quarterly significant transaction log on both a GAAP and IFRS basis.

+ Work with auditors to assist in quarterly and year-end audit procedures including audit requests.

+ Maintain SOX compliance and coordinate responses to requests made by internal and external auditors.

+ Take part of the Company’s implementation and transition of new enterprise system.

+ Research and prepare financial statement analytics to include in our quarterly results package to our parent entity.

+ Assist with special accounting and financial reporting projects, as needed.

Qualifications

+ Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA preferred

+ 2-3 years of accounting and financial reporting experience is required, SEC or other public filing reporting is a plus

+ Big Four public accounting or real estate experience is a plus

+ Current knowledge of GAAP and other sources of authoritative accounting guidance, such as IFRS

+ Ability to effectively interact with all levels of management, staff and external firms

+ Excellent written and oral communication skills

+ Proactive, deadline focused and organized

+ Strong analytical ability and proven problem solving skills

+ Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel

+ Past experience with accounting software; JD Edwards, Yardi and/or OneStream experience preferred
