The Physical Detection Systems and Deployment Group within the National Security Directorate is looking for undergraduate technical intern(s) to support the United States High Performance Research Reactor Conversion project. This project leads universities, private sector, and government facilities to replace high enriched uranium in high performance research reactors with low enriched uranium.

Responsibilities

Candidates must have a strong interest and background in engineering, engineering management, and leading technical teams. Coursework and/or experience in SolidWorks, additive manufacturing is required. Coursework and/or experience in mass spectroscopic sample preparation and analysis is highly desired. Must be proficient with basic laboratory skills and SolidWorks. Good verbal and written communication skills are required. Ability to work independently, as well as in a team.

We are looking for candidates who are self-motivated, organized and can pay attention to detail.

Among the tasks slated for these position(s) are:

+ Review of technical documents to identify key words

+ Design of experiment for mass spectroscopic measurements for homogeneity analysis of U-10Mo alloy

+ Support to the design teams for surge design tasks in SolidWorks

+ Design of SolidWorks models for 3D printing

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

+ Candidates must have a high school diploma /GED or higher

+ Candidates must be degree-seeking undergraduate students enrolled at an accredited college or university

+ Candidates must be taking at least 6 credit hours and have an overall cumulative GPA of 2.50

Preferred Qualifications:

+ Degree in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, engineering management, or related engineering field

Hazardous Working Conditions/Environment

This task will require supervised laboratory work as well as office only data analysis work.

Additional Information

Internship will be remote during academic year, during summer (May/June through August/September) internship may require onsite at PNNL Richland campus.

Testing Designated Position
