The Role

The Specialist, Independent Medical Education is responsible for independently managing and reviewing educational grant applications for multiple therapeutic areas and providing medical education expertise to the Medical Affairs, Americas, U.S. therapeutic areas (TAs) and the Regional Education Grants Evaluation Committee (REGEC). Additionally, this position is responsible for providing thought leadership and subject matter expertise, bringing industry insights to achieve improvements in knowledge, effectiveness, efficiency, consistency and quality of educational grants. Maintain strong relationships with MA colleagues to identify and leverage educational activities to improve patient care.

Responsibilities:

+ Provides strategic direction, development, execution, and evaluation of high impact IME strategic educational plans and tactical implementation across designated TAs, including metrics to assess and measure cost, quality, reach, and impact of funded activities.

+ Ensures adherence and monitors compliance to J-Sox controls and internal and external regulatory, legal, and compliance guidances.

+ Promotes integrated education planning across the organization and ensures effective communication with cross-functional teams.

+ Actively monitors external developments in Medical Education and provides suggestions to incorporate industry best practices.

+ Acts as an IME SME by maintaining and communicating up-to-date knowledge of IME industry standards and practices and keeps abreast and proactively responds to trends and/or shifts in the external CME/IME environment to predict and maximize positive impact to Astellas.

+ Advances the positive public image of Astellas through keeping abreast of and rapidly responding to the evolving external IME/CME landscape (e.g. transparency, policy, state reporting etc) through engagement of appropriate Astellas stakeholders and participation in relevant industry-related organizations, conferences, and taskforces.

+ Develops, organizes, collects, monitors and reports on key performance metrics related to US Medical Education.

+ Supports manager with external grant platform vendor to ensure deliverables and processes comply with Astellas SOPsMonitors progress of all funded medical education activities and communicates updates to key internal stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

+ Bachelors degree or comparable experience (healthcare related or life sciences field),:

+ Minimum of 3-5 years experience in the pharmaceutical industry, independent medical

+ education

+ (CME) field or related area of practice required. Experience with Independent Medical Education programs or grants preferred.

+ At least 3 years’ experience with analytics, project management and problem solving skills.

+ Ability to influence and build strong relationships cross functionally and with external stakeholders in leadership positions.

Preferred Qualifications:

+ At least 3 years’ experience with Medical Affairs disciplines and broad knowledge of other functional areas that interface with Medical Affairs.

+ At least 3 years’ experience with anti-kickback laws and OIG, AMA, ACCME, and PhRMA guidelines.

+ Experience representing company to Professional Societies and Organizations at a high level preferred
