Duties and Responsibilities 
 Loyola University Chicago (LUC), College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Engineering invites applications for a Temporary, One-Year Instructor Appointment (non-renewable) for academic year 2024-2025. Engineering at Loyola is relatively new, having graduated its inaugural undergraduate class in 2019, and achieved ABET accreditation in 2020. It is consistently ranked in the Top 60 in the annual U.S. News and World Report Best Undergraduate Programs (No Doctorate) list, and in the Top 10 in the annual American Society for Engineering Education Percentage of Bachelors Degrees Awarded to Women list. The department serves 150 majors and has 3 specializations in the areas of Biomedical, Computer, and Environmental Engineering. This search is part of a University-wide, multiyear hiring initiative designed to hire outstanding researchers and teachers who are reflective of our diverse student body and committed to interdisciplinarity (i.e., working with colleagues across different subfields and disciplines). Of special interest are candidates who can further the University's efforts to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion.


Teaching responsibilities shall include a 4-4 teaching load, including environmental engineering courses such as Fundamentals of Environmental Engineering and Fundamentals of Environmental Engineering Lab. The instructor will also teach core engineering courses such as Chemical and Thermal Processes (Thermodynamics), Materials Engineering, and Core Engineering Lab. All engineering courses are taught using the Department's active learning teaching style.
Qualifications 
 The candidate will have a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering or Civil Engineering. Candidates for the position must clearly demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching and have a record of (or clear potential for) student mentorship). The candidate should be willing to support the mission of LUC and the goals of a Jesuit Catholic Education. and in particular our efforts towards inclusive teaching practices and the support of under-represented groups.
