Job Summary
Under the direction of the Chair of the Division of Cardiology, the Manager of Cardiac Catheterization (Cath) and Electrophysiology (EP) Laboratories manages the invasive cardiac and EP services across Cook County Health (CCH). Supervises the clinical and nonclinical staff in the invasive cardiovascular laboratories, including cardiac cath and EP labs and hybrid room(s) and formulates and implements policies and procedures, supports quality improvement initiatives, reviews outcome measures, and initiates needed change. Oversees the implementation of various operational and quality improvement initiatives in the invasive areas which include, but are not limited to, cardiac cath, EP, structural, vascular, and hybrid procedures and other related clinical services across CCH.
This position is exempt from Career Service under the CCH Personnel Rules.
General Administrative Responsibilities
Collective Bargaining
Review applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements and consult with Labor Relations to generate management proposals.
Participate in collective bargaining negotiations, caucus discussions and working meetings.
Discipline
Document, recommend and effectuate discipline at all levels.
Work closely with labor relations and/or labor counsel to effectuate and enforce applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements
Initiate, authorize and complete disciplinary action pursuant to CCH system rules, policies, procedures and provision of applicable collective bargaining agreements
Supervision
Direct and effectuate CCH management policies and practices
Access and proficiently navigate CCH records system to obtain and review information necessary to execute provisions of applicable collective bargaining agreements.
Management
Contribute to the management of CCH staff and CCH' systemic development and success.
Discuss and develop CCH system policy and procedure.
Consistently use independent judgment to identify operational staffing issues and needs and perform the following functions as necessary; hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, recall, promote, discharge, assign, direct or discipline employees pursuant to applicable Collective Bargaining Agreements
Work with Labor Relations to discern past practice when necessary.
Typical Duties
Supervises nursing, technical, clerical, and other staff in the invasive cardiovascular services.
Assumes administrative functions of the operational and quality improvement initiatives in the invasive cardiology and electrophysiology areas.
Collaborates with appropriate area managers to implement the operational and quality improvement initiatives in invasive cardiology and electrophysiology services across CCH.
Interviews, hires, trains, and takes disciplinary action as necessary.
Educates staff to develop critical thinking skills aimed to improve patient safety, patient experience, quality of care, and operational efficiencies.
Establishes practice standards for superior patient care according to evidence-based guidelines.
Leads or supervises data collection for quality improvement initiatives throughout the Division of Cardiology.
Oversees data collection and submission to clinical data registries.
Facilitates clinical research activities in cardiac cath and EP laboratories.
Facilitates the implementation of hospital-wide innovations and quality improvement initiatives in cardiac cath and EP laboratories
Leads multidisciplinary teams of clinical and nonclinical personnel to improve quality of care, patients experience, and operational efficiencies.
Leads or assists in policy, protocol and guideline development.
Oversees regulatory compliance with requirements of The Joint Commission (TJC), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), and other regulatory bodies.
Participates in obtaining and maintaining laboratory accreditation from relevant accreditation bodies.
Participates or facilitates data submission to clinical or research registries.
Implements operational or systematic changes necessary to facilitate internal and external patient transfers and subsequent follow-up.
Acts as a liaison for Cardiology to implement systematic changes aimed at improving workflow and patient care.
Creates constructive partnerships with peers, providers, nursing, technical, administrative staff, and other departments to achieve positive clinical and service outcomes.
Coordinates patient care between Surgical Cardiovascular Service, Emergency Department, and Cardiology.
