Job Summary:

The Northwestern School of Professional Studies Distance Learning team, located in Chicago, Illinois, is looking for a motivated individual to join our team. In this role, you will join various course development teams and have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of courses and topics.
This job is perfect for a detail-oriented person who is organized, possesses strong writing skills, and is adaptable to multiple deadlines.
The ideal candidate will have copy writing experience, preferably in an educational setting. Experience with learning management systems and digital accessibility is a plus!

Specific Responsibilities:
Interact with distance education staff and faculty to edit and format digital materials, both documents and within LMS, for online courses.
Perform technical editing of highly technical and complex materials.
Proofread all course materials and provide meaningful, appropriate feedback to instructors.
Adhere to various publication styles as well as internal style manuals.
Adhere to copyright laws and identify potential violations.
Work with University departments and external vendors to ensure copyright compliance.
Review all course sites and assets for compliance with accessibility standards (developed based on WCAG 2.1).
Create or edit content for the department's website, blog or other social media on an as-needed basis.
Collaborate with distance education staff to create and publish a monthly digital newsletter.
Assist with facilitating and maintaining online faculty development programs.
Minimum Qualifications: (Education, experience, and any other certifications or clearances)
Bachelor's degree in a writing, communications, or education related field.
2+ years of writing/editing experience.
Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)
Ability to prioritize and organize tasks related to projects.
Strong organizational, document management, and versioning skills.
Demonstrated ability to independently plan and carry out projects to achieve stated objectives.
Ability to write under deadline.
Ability to be a team player.
Strong interpersonal, communication (written and verbal), and organizational skills.
Demonstrates critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrates coachability, efficiency, and initiative.
Ability to perform comfortably in a deadline-oriented work environment and to execute many complex tasks simultaneously.
Strong analytical skills to process complex information and translate, and incorporate the information into effective, engaging course designs.
Ability to explain thoughts and design approaches clearly and in plain language.
Attention to detail, especially in grammar, punctuation, and proofreading.
Competency with MS Office applications.
Effective oral communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications: (Education and experience)
4+ years of professional writing and editing
Experience in higher education environment
Experience teaching/taking courses in an online environment
Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)
Knowledge of HTML preferable.
Knowledge of WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards.
Knowledge of US and international copyright law as it applies to online educational materials.
Familiarity with learning management systems.
Other duties as assigned.
Target hiring range for this position will be between $66,000 to $69,500 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
