Job Description

 

ERM is seeking an experienced technical editor/document manager to assist in developing, reviewing, and managing/coordinating content for large, multi-volume environmental reports. Candidates must have the ability to strategically format, revise, and manipulate Microsoft Word document templates; develop and maintain project-specific style and consistency guides; develop and maintain editing, senior/peer review, and tracking procedures; review and edit technical content; and work within project budget and schedule.

 

Position Expectations:

  • Effectively work with Partners, project managers, technical staff, external clients, and other editors to review and edit large, complex reports
  • Demonstrate self-initiative, positive team attitude, creativity, flexibility, and ability to successfully manage multiple deadline-driven project documents and other tasks simultaneously
  • Possess basic understanding of U.S. Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (or equivalent state standards), plain language, and WordPDF conversion
  • Possess excellent referencing and citation abilities for all possible sources (federal regulations, websites, technical reports, maps, journal articles, email correspondence, etc.); experience with citation management software a plus
  • Possess familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style

 

Position ResponsibilitiesImpact Assessments and other Client Submittals:

  • Edit complex technical reports in accordance with project standards; client requirements; and federal, state, and local regulatory compliance
  • Oversee document development, production, and delivery process
  • Develop and maintain checklists, punch lists, tracking sheets, and project folders or SharePoint structures
  • Develop document templates based on client requirements (and government regulations, if necessary)
  • Provide initial guidance during kick-off meetings to align team expectations, uphold version control, and establish consistency and quality expectations throughout the document development and production process
  • Coordinate with ERM offices and team members worldwide to obtain required information/input
  • When necessary, research and write non-technical sections of reports
  • Coordinate with outside printing and translation companies, when necessary
  • Develop, track, and maintain master reference lists and corresponding in-text citations
  • Develop, track, and maintain master acronym lists
  • Compile copies of source materials to include in administrative/project records
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. Section 508 or equivalent state standards

 

Experience/Skills:

  • 7+ years experience required, specifically in document management, editing, and writing/proofing; experience in environmental/engineering consulting industry preferred
  • Ability to concentrate and work effectively under tight deadlines
  • Experience in NEPA environmental impact statements/environmental assessments, U.S. Section 508 compliance or equivalent state standards, and administrative records strongly preferred
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in the following software: Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Adobe Acrobat Pro; and SharePoint
  • Team player with strong interpersonal skills and collaborative mindset, ability to multi-task, and enjoy fast-paced/changing responsibilities
  • Effective task management, attention to detail, communication, organization, and follow-through
  • Reference management software experience a plus
  • Bachelor or Masters degree in English, Journalism, or similar
