UI Health is seeking a Health Information Technician to join our Health Information Management team. This role supports the management of health information and data integrity in the Health Information Management department. This position encompasses customer service support, release of patient health information and radiology images, medical record documentation validation and scanning, deficiency analysis, and chart correction.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Retrieves documentation from designated locations in the hospital and clinics for scanning.
Processes paper documentation for scanning into the EHR and reviews images for data quality and integrity.
Analyzes and edits patient information in the electronic health record to identify potential duplicate medical record numbers and documentation errors. Performs duplicate medical record merges and corrects documentation errors.
Analyzes transcribed reports for content accuracy and association to the correct patient. Notifies clinicians of any documentation corrections to dictated reports that need to be completed.
Performs documentation deficiency analysis for discharged patients. Monitors deficiency analysis work queues to validate missing or incomplete documentation, and generates reports of noncompliant clinicians.
Provides customer support to the HIM department by resolving customer queries, recommending solutions, and providing guidance. Processes documentation requests from referring physicians and internal requestors.
Validates release of information authorization form and processes requests for release of patient information and/or radiology materials.
Assists patients with access to the patient's portal. Reviews and processes requests for proxy access.
Assigns access to the electronic health record to the external auditors and other reviewers.
Performs ongoing and ad hoc documentation audits and generates documentation compliance reports.
Communicates effectively with physicians, hospital staff, and external customers to provide guidance pertaining to health information inquiries.
Performs other duties as required.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Any one or combination totaling eighteen months (18 months) from the categories below:
A. coursework in a health-related field, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:

30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
