Modern Healthcare, the authoritative source for healthcare business news, is seeking a full-time reporter to cover medtech.

This is a new beat for Modern Healthcare, which creates an exciting opportunity for the right reporter to help define it and make it their own.Rapidly changing technology and industry dynamics mean heavyweights such as GE Healthcare, Medtronic, Fresenius, Medline, 3M Healthcare and Abbott - along with all the upstarts - are redefining how care will be delivered and paid for in the U.S.

We are looking for an enterprising, experienced reporter who will dig into the beat, has good news judgment and is able to break news and juggle daily stories along with analysis and enterprise stories. We have a sophisticated audience that includes industry leaders at hospitals, insurers, physician groups, tech firms and other vendors and policymakers. Smart journalism is Modern Healthcare's hallmark and what sets us apart from our competition, and we're looking for the right reporter to join us.

Modern Healthcare is based in Chicago but will consider remote work from a state listed on our career site. Must work Central Time Zone if remote.

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field
A minimum of three years of reporting experience
Minimum of three recent clips
Ability to meet deadlines and file clean, concise and comprehensive copy on complex issues with a high degree of accuracy, balance and readability
Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
Must have attention to detail, industry knowledge and the ability to interpret data
Ability to digest large amounts of information, "see the story," and execute with urgency as needed
Ability to work remotely while keeping your editors and colleagues informed of your assignments and developments
Job candidates most likely to excel in this position will be ones who are self-starters motivated by excellence, are competitive and curious and enjoy being part of a team

Preferences
Experience covering healthcare and/or business
Experience covering medical devices and/or technology used in healthcare

This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.

Pay Transparency Disclosure:
The estimated salary range for this position is $60,000 to $70,000.

The final salary offering will take into accounta wide range of factors, including experience, accomplishments and location. The salary range provided should not be considered as a salary limit or cap. In addition to base salary, Crain also offers competitive benefits including retirement plan savings contributions and bonus opportunities based on individual and company performance.
