The Executive Director will provide leadership, assistance, and technical support to all areas of Health & Safety. Responsibilities are to ensure the development, implementation and administration of systems to prevent occupational injuries and illnesses and manage workers' compensation, risk management and property conservation processes throughout the organization reducing the company's financial risk for these critical functions. This position is also responsible for audits and monitoring of compliance related to risk mitigation, regulations, and standards primarily in the areas of environmental, health and safety. In carrying out the objectives stated above, the Executive Director will provide technical guidance to facilities, employees, and company leaders to achieve PCA's business and compliance goals while providing progress evaluations and audits for company performance as it relates to industry standards for EH&S performance.
Responsibilities include:
BS or MS degree in Safety Management, Industrial Hygiene, or Engineering
10+ years of industry experience in the appropriate environment, health and safety areas.
Management and supervisory experience within all levels of the organization to include hourly, salaried, or professional employees
Working knowledge of federal and state rules and regulations, preferably pertaining to integrated paper manufacturing and corrugated operations.
Ability to lead and work with all levels of the organization to improve and sustain a world class safety culture throughout the Company.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Travel expectations 65-75% based on business needs.
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
Direct, manage, and coordinate the EH&S activities for all facilities within the Containerboard and Corrugated divisions to ensure compliance with all applicable local, state and federal requirements.
Provide proactive leadership ensuring employee awareness of EH&S objectives. Implement and sustain systems that strategically support PCA's safety culture. Provide cost effective technical support to reduce the frequency and severity of injuries and illnesses.
Stay apprised of future EH&S regulations and other requirements to ensure the organizations compliance with new requirements.
Manage, coordinate, and participate audits of facilities within the direct responsibility of this position. Support mill safety staff in development, implementation and administration of loss prevention and risk reduction stems.
Facilitate interchange of best safety practices between the mills and corrugated facilities.
Serve as the corporate representative to industry organizations as required or needed. This position will be required to communicate such activities to facilities, mills and corporate staff in order to facilitate a general understanding of health and safety issues.
Interact with Mill Safety Personnel, Mill Managers, Corporate Staff, Executive Management, Corporate Departments, Insurance provider, trade group principals and regulatory agencies as required.
Make decisions and recommendations on safety systems, loss control processes, workers' compensation and risk management.
Provide timely technical assistance to the mills in the investigation of serious injuries or incidents. Coordinate reporting of injury and illness information between locations, corporate and third-party administrators.
