Position Summary
Staff Nurse II is accountable for the delivery of patient care utilizing the Nursing Process and Relationship-Based Care model as the framework. The Staff Nurse II provides direct patient care and takes initiative to improve patient outcomes by integrating Shared Leadership, Evidence Based Practice, Relationship Based Care and standards of nursing excellence into clinical practice. Through therapeutic relationships with patients, families, self and colleagues, the Staff Nurse II functions as an interdisciplinary team member who provides quality patient care and fulfills unit and organizational goals. Staff Nurse II facilitates educational development of staff, leads unit-based quality improvement initiatives and acts as a professional and clinical role model and educational resource for staff. Staff Nurse II is actively engaged in Shared Leadership through membership on a governing council.

Duties & Responsibilities

Develops, implements, and updates the patient's plan of care based on on-going assessment of the patient and_x000d_ input from the patient's family._x000d_
Shares information and collaborates with other members of the health care team to promote effective patient_x000d_ care._x000d_
Verifies and implements orders from physician, physician assistant and/or advance practice nurse by performing_x000d_ interventions as prescribed by the provider and documenting accurately in the electronic medical record._x000d_
Engages and obtains information from patient and/or family to develop an appropriate patient educational plan._x000d_
Recognizes symptoms, establishes priorities, and responds to patient's changing needs._x000d_
Engages support personnel by delegating appropriate tasks per the Illinois State Nurse Practice Act and provides_x000d_ support and feedback._x000d_
Advocates for patients, families, and their significant others, the community, and the nursing profession._x000d_
Assumes role of Charge Nurse when assigned, utilizing appropriate resources and tools._x000d_
Integrates theoretical knowledge, evidence-based research, current standards of practice and clinical experience_x000d_ to provide "quality" patient care as measured by established nursing quality standards and other_x000d_ governing/accrediting health care bodies._x000d_
Takes responsibility for continued professional growth/development by identification of learning needs and_x000d_ initiates strategies to meet such needs._x000d_
Identifies recurring clinical practice and/or related unit problems and participates in problem solving and_x000d_ resolution._x000d_
Plans, presents, and evaluates learning/educational experiences for staff and students._x000d_
Serves as preceptor and/or resource to other nursing, support staff and students._x000d_
