Project Coordinator

Department of Public Health

Violence Prevention

Number of Positions: 1

Starting Salary: $71,004

This multi-faceted position will contribute to the administrative and programmatic functioning of the Office of Violence Prevention in support of efficiency and impact

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

+ Develops and implements program plans, objectives, standards, and procedures for use by staff or delegate agencies in providing programs and services to staff, clients and partners and other consumers.

+ Supervises professional staff and interns and oversees delegate agencies in the administration of programs and the delivery of services to consumers and clients.

+ Develop and foster positive relationships with stakeholders and delegate agencies.

+ Develops requests for proposals (RFPs) and assists in selecting evaluators and service providers and negotiates scope of services for contracts.

+ Creates and/or uses program evaluation tools (e.g., Program Evaluation Monitoring System) to ensure agency compliance and oversees the monitoring of administrative, operational, and fiscal components of programs to determine their compliance and effectiveness in meeting established goals and quality standards (e.g., conducts site visits to review agencies’ program and fiscal documentation).

+ Provides technical assistance to delegate agencies found to be in non-compliance and monitors agencies’ progress in correcting identified deficiencies.

+ Recommends corrective action in cases of non-compliance with contract agreements.

+ Establishes linkages and partnerships with health and social services agencies to facilitate resource sharing (e.g., assists agencies with their outreach needs, provides information).

+ Oversees the maintenance of program resources, records, materials and the preparation of narrative and statistical reports on program activities.

+ Implements procedural changes to modify and improve the quality and scope of programs and services.

+ Develops and trains and or directs the training of staff and/or delegate agencies on program administration procedures.

+ Prepares program budgets, monitors and approves expenditures, and authorizes payments to agencies for services provided.

+ Writes grant proposals to obtain program funding.

+ Convenes and works with advisory groups in planning, implementing and evaluating the impact of programs.

+ Recruits volunteers to support projects and or conducts outreach for programs and services

Additional duties may be required for this position

Location: 1920 South Western Avenue. Chicago IL 60608

Days: Monday – Friday

Hours: 8:30am – 4:30pm

Some additional hours may be required in case of public health emergency.

THIS POSITION IS IN THE CAREER SERVICE

Qualifications:

· Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Public or Business Administration, Social Sciences, Planning or a related field, supplemented by three years of progressively responsible experience in program administration, or an equivalent combination of training and experience is required

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires applicants to complete an interview which will include a written exercise, power point presentation and/or a skills assessment test as part of the interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral and written parts of the interview will be selected

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

+ Master’s degree in Social Work, Public Health, Administration or Psychology or related field.

+ Previous work experience with developing and monitoring programs and budgets.

+ Previous supervisory experience working in a professional setting with knowledge of violence prevention and/or behavioral health programs.

+ Previous experience writing requests for proposals (RFPs) and grant proposals; and implementing funded initiatives.

+ Previous experience convening committees or collaboratives.

+ Previous experience preparing reports to the funders and/or public partners.

+ Previous experience implementing violence prevention and related initiatives.
