Job Description and Requirements:

This position is responsible for assisting with research trials and maintaining recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) for ADM Animal Nutrition Research and Development team. Research priorities support developing novel solutions to challenges in the aquaculture industry. The person in this position will work closely with the aquaculture wet lab manager and research scientists to conduct trials, assist with feed manufacture, and perform lab analysis (e.g., water quality, feed proximate composition, and tissue analysis) at the facility. The position will also require scheduling flexibility to allow working weekends and holidays on a rotational basis.

This position requires basic aquaculture husbandry skills. The person in this position will be responsible for feeding fish and shrimp, general operation of RAS, water quality analysis, recording data, collecting samples, and cleaning and maintaining tanks. Basic laboratory skills, such as pipetting, use of analytical balances, and performing standard assays, will be essential to performing job duties. The candidate will have strong communication skills with the ability to work independently and function on a diverse team.

Detailed Responsibilities:

+ Feed and provide general husbandry to fish and shrimp

+ Willingness to work with biological samples and live animals

+ Assist project managers in the development and execution of research protocols

+ Follow Animal Care and Use Committee guidelines

+ Collect and organize data for analysis or presentation

+ Perform water quality analysis and system maintenance/upgrades

+ Monitor inventory of critical supplies for operation of the aquaculture lab

+ Set up, calibrate, and maintain aquaculture lab equipment

+ Follow ADM safety policies

Education and Experience:

+ B.S. in relevant area (e.g. animal nutrition, biology, aquaculture, or microbiology) or previous experience in aquaculture is preferred; other candidates may be considered based on relevant experience

+ Demonstrated ability to execute research protocols and interpret laboratory assays

+ Working knowledge of conducting research trials preferred

+ Familiarity with industrial processes and/or livestock feed manufacture is desirable

+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

+ Demonstrated proficiency in written and verbal communication

+ Ability to communicate effectively to a diverse team
