The Associate Dean, Adult Education & ESL supports the Dean in providing division-wide leadership for promoting academic, administrative, and fiscal responsibilities in accordance with the College’s Strategic Plan. The Associate Dean works with the Dean to perform functions and tasks necessary to provide effective daily operations of the Division and support all departments under the division. The Associate Dean provides direction in developing, expanding, revising, improving, and ensuring the successful operations of multiple functional areas within the Division.

Required Qualification(s)

1.Master’s degree from an accredited college or university

2. Minimum seven (7) years of professional work experience

3. Minimum of two (2) years’ work experience in higher education

4. Minimum three (3) years of supervisory experience

5. Demonstrated recent collaborative leadership experience. Possess excellent organizational and project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities

7. Possess strong critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills and acumen

8. Demonstrated abilities as an effective and exceptionally skilled communicator, specifically as it relates to verbal, written communication, and active listening

9. Demonstrated strong personal integrity, ability to form effective partnerships, ability to collaborate with others and work in a team environment consistent with the College of Lake County values

10. Demonstrated success using inquiry and evidence to inform decision-making, short- and long-term planning

11. Proven commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion proactively demonstrated through the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, identities and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

4. Previous administrative or supervisory experience

Candidates for this position will be required to do a presentation. This position is 50% grant funded and 50% College funded.

Pay Rate ($90,441 – $94,200) The salary offer in this range will be based on education and experience. This range is firm. Full-Time/Part-Time Full-Time Location Grayslake Total Hours per week 40.00

+ Work Schedule

Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

May supervise three campuses and extension sites

One Saturday per month

Occasional evening hours based on department needs

Summary of Essential Functions Strategic Leadership and Project Management 20%

+ Provide values-driven leadership to build and contribute to a high-performing team that provides a high-quality educational experience for Adult Education & ESL students

+ Implement the strategic plan, drive college/division goals, and foster a student-centered and community-focused culture while upholding College rules, ICCB’s guidelines, collective bargaining agreements, and shared governance structures

+ Champion the values of excellence, purpose, integrity, compassion, unity and inclusion as a leader of the College. Support student and employee success by demonstrating a commitment to equity, inclusion, and respectful interactions with persons of diverse ethnic, cultural, socio-economic or educational backgrounds

+ Serve on councils, commissions, committees, tasks forces, and college projects and teams to support efforts in providing an exceptional student experience

+ Participate in curriculum development that helps students achieve level gains, completion, and transitions

Division Administration and Operations 30%

+ Collaborate with the Dean, Academic Operations and Compliance Manager and Department Chairs to produce a student-centered schedule that meets the expectations of the college’s strategic goals and meets contractual obligations.

+ Resolve and adjudicate student, faculty, and other academic related concerns as they arise.

+ Maintain regular, clear, and consistent communication within the division across both the Adult Education and the ESL departments

+ Serve as the lead contact with ICCB regarding grants and state-wide contact projects

+ Maintain departmental records in accordance with federal, state and College of Lake County standards.

+ Provide oversight for a comprehensive and efficient system of services to students in alignment with college and division goals and fiscal sustainability.

+ Assist Department Chairs with curriculum development that leads to increased retention, level gains, completion, and transitions

+ Provide oversight for programmatic needs of all three campuses and off-campus sites

Personnel Management 35%

+ Hire lead, manage, support, and empower part-time faculty and division employees to meet Adult Education & ESL and College of Lake County standards

+ Assist in the recruitment, hiring, on-boarding, staffing, training, professional development, discipline and regular evaluation of part-time faculty in a collective bargaining environment.

+ Evaluate and oversee professional development plans and goals for assigned staff in accordance with good management practices, campus policies and collective bargaining agreements

+ Collaborate with Human Resources and other department personnel to ensure accurate payroll and attendance documentation for part-time faculty and staff

+ Supervise and provide direction for the Student Success Manager to provide supportive services that lead to the successful transition of students into college and/or career programs

Grant Management 10%

+ Assist Dean in grant oversight by reviewing potential grants, developing and managing grants including their submission, budgets, and reporting

+ Drive metrics associated with grants including enrollment, enrollment, completion, graduation, and career readiness

Other 5 %

+ Respond to and resolve placement and academic concerns submitted by students

+ Participate in professional associations and development that enhance subject matter expertise and leadership competencies

+ Perform all other duties as assigned that support the mission, vision, and strategic initiatives of College of Lake County and Adult Education & ESL
