Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Collect and test samples from throughout the Complex and other locations. Including but not limited to swabs, air exposures, and water program
- Prepare media, chemical reagents, and cleaning solutions.
- Collect and prepare samples for outside testing.
- Read and evaluate microbiological plates and tubes.
- Prepare slides, conduct microscopic examinations, and identify microorganisms.
- Maintain records, prepare and distribute reports electronically.
- Maintain and keep current LIMS system.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain all laboratory instrumentation and equipment. - Work with external service vendors.
- Coordinate and maintain external certification of equipment.
- Support all Business Units and R&D by conducting special microbiological studies and investigations.
- Complete all required laboratory controls.
- Maintain adequate levels of all micro/lab supplies to include inventory and ordering.
- Maintain budget requirements and review expenditure reports.
- Perform all duties with attention given to a high degree of precision, accuracy, productivity, and safety.
- Maintain all GMP practices and perform GMP inspections.
- Maintain proper housekeeping and period cleaning in the area.
- Actively participate in Safety program.
- Assist with laboratory duties as needed. - Perform other duties as assigned by the laboratory staff or designee.

Minimal Qualifications:
- Ability to organize and perform complex work at a fast pace with a high degree of precision, accuracy and safety.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to work effectively in a self directed role.
- Proven ability to communicate procedures and ideas to other employees in formal or informal training sessions.
- Exhibits initiative and performs tasks beyond job scope.
- Must be able to work in a variety of physical environments including areas with varying degrees of temperature, humidity, and noise.
- Must be able to prioritize, use good judgment, and handle urgent situations with professionalism.
- Ability to understand and use simple algebra, microbiological, lab methods and/or procedures and instrument specifications.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Have strong computer skills (with programs such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Unilab, and Microsoft E-Mail).
- Able to operate all necessary instrumentation / equipment in a safe manner.
- Experience with team environments.
- Experience with microbiologicLocation(s)Champaign Plant
