Position Summary:
Under limited supervision, the Graphics Designer collaborates with customers and sales representatives to create designs for new products, redesign packaging for existing products, and develop new uses for existing packages.

PCA operates six containerboard mills and 94 corrugated plants in 27 states. The Graphics Designer is integral to the total service team accessible to our customers. PCA offers customers the expertise of our designers to develop the optimal design solutions for their business. Graphics Designers utilize proprietary PCA software and techniques to create packaging and Point of Purchase (POP) displays to help customers get noticed and get results in the marketplace.

Principle Accountabilities:
Designs and submits samples to prospective customers for the purpose of securing new business and maintaining present business.
Provides technical assistance to the Sales Representatives and Sales Service Department regarding layouts, orders detailed artwork and printing dies, and approves printing press and die cut set-ups for initial order of new designs.
Applies advanced design skills in the creation of designs for packaging and/or point of service displays for new and existing products.
Create or secure samples of designs for customer inspection, production orders and/or division operation.
Evaluate existing customer or prospective customer packaging for possible improvement in style, function, appearance, cost and/or ease of packaging as directed by supervisor.
Develop designs and recommend materials and production methods that will meet customer requirements and most efficiently utilize existing plant facilities and equipment.
Work with Sales and Production personnel on problems concerning estimating, die making, order specifications, customer packaging procedures, and material handling techniques.
Knows and follows policies and procedures of the company, shares information that would benefit other members of the team and finds ways to improve the delivery of service to our customers.

Decision Making:
The Graphics Designer is expected to transform ideas, concepts, and general information into a feasible project design. In collaboration with the design manager, the designer is responsible for making decisions regarding design prior to client submittal. Engage in collaborative decision making with client, manager, other designers and sales representative.

Interactions with Customers and Contacts
Internally, the Graphics Designer coordinates with the sales and customer service personnel to profile customer needs and address any design inquiries. The Graphics Designer also works with production staff to ensure PCA is equipped to meet customer needs and to address any design challenges. This position reports to the Design Center Manager and collaborates with designers from other plants and design centers as needed
Externally, the Graphics Designer is the face of PCA to the customer. The Graphics Designer will work closely with the customer to address their design challenge and provide the right solution. The Graphics Designer must embody PCA's business philosophy when interacting with customers by doing what's right for our customers, focusing on strategies that add value and support growth, and keeping the promises that we make.

Position Requirements
Bachelor's degree in graphic design, structural engineering, or packaging required.
Minimum of four years previous experience with packaging and point of purchase display creation and design.
Strong working knowledge of production methods, printing methods, materials, styles, and standard design forms and retail usage of packaging and point of purchase displays required.
Strong working knowledge of Computer Assisted Design (CAD) software as well as Microsoft Office required.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to interact with sales, customer service, production, and the customer as needed.
Visualization: Ability to quickly grasp the customer's current situation and their solution needs based on the current market environment and cross business objectives. Based on customer understanding, able to develop compelling design possibilities.
