Job Summary:
Reporting directly to the Associate Dean of Administration, the Senior Director is responsible for all aspects of the school's financial planning, operations, and reporting.This role also includes budget planning and financial analysis, including special analyses requested by the Dean's Office. The Senior Director is expected to provide leadership in all areas of the school's financial management, including the Medill Business Office and its staff and operations. The expectation is that Senior Director will be viewed as an integral part of the Dean's management team, becoming a trusted advisor for the Dean and leadership team.
A well-qualified candidate has already been identified and will be considered for the position alongside other qualified candidates identified through a competitive recruitment process. The University reserves its right to give priority consideration to internal qualified candidates.
This position will be on-site on the Evanston campus for a minimum of two days per week, while the remaining time is allowed to be worked remotely. This remote working arrangement will be evaluated on a regular basis and may be changed based on business and operational needs.
Please note: The target budgeted salary for this position is $120,000 - $145,000 annually. Offers will be based on candidate experience and education, as well as equity within Northwestern University.
Specific Responsibilities:
Budget Planning and Administration
Conceptualize, implement and execute an annual planning and budget process for all School departments and programs. The annual plan and budget should cover all recurring funds that are currently available to the School, as well as any new resources that will become available in the upcoming year.
Develop, maintain, and complete the detailed School-wide financial forecast and related models, including input from all relevant stakeholders, covering all funds and programs. This will inform the quarterly forecast report due to the Budget Office. Incorporate accurate reserves reporting and monthly financial performance analysis for all School departments and units as part of this process.
Complete thorough review of approximately half of department/program budgets monthly, directing ad hoc analyses as necessary, develops and implements solutions to budget issues as needed.
Update and submit quarterly all funds and tuition revenue-sharing forecast reports due to the Budget Office.
Develop and maintain models to monitor tuition for Professional Master's Programs. This will inform the tuition forecast due to the Budget Office quarterly.
Manage spending from unrestricted gifts and endowments to ensure prudent allocation of expense as part of managing budget across all funds.
Support School-wide strategic planning process by completing financial analyses and multi-year financial plans, summarizing the Dean's strategic plan and new initiatives.
Summarize and submit resource requests due to the Budget Office as part of the annual Resource Planning process.
