We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Copy Manager on our Marketing & Membership Experience team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office, requiring 2 days a week in the office. As a Copy Manager, you will be communicating Membership’s messaging for marketing and advertising campaigns using a consistent brand voice, look and strategic point of view across all channels. Deliver messaging using the power of words to drive audiences to action. Leverage data for sound decision-making, marketing expertise and creative judgement as part of a team to generate effective messaging and creative concepts that elevate the AMA brand and membership experience. Develop and present concise, compelling copy. RESPONSIBILITIES: Copy

+ Develop and deliver compelling, accurate, and persuasive messaging to drive action, from concept to final as assigned

+ Responsible for researching, copyediting, proofreading, interaction with subject matter experts, brainstorming, and recommend multiple messaging options after creative review

+ Demonstrate versatility in editing and/or crafting appropriate copy and messaging solutions tailored to different media platforms and/or audiences (print, digital, video, member vs. non-member, recruitment vs. retention, etc.)

+ Be aware and knowledgeable of shifting language, perspectives, business tactics, advocacy or policy developments, etc., across the AMA

+ Capture AMA’s and leaders’ messaging tone and align to the in-house style guidelines to ensure consistent and appropriate messaging and, in collaboration with Creative Team and Membership leads, leverage for member and non-member communications and campaigns

+ Participate in the process of proofreading, cross checking, quality assurance and version control

+ Collaborate with the analytics team on using data to make messaging decisions; also monitor, recommend, and adapt messaging strategy in consultation with Membership team to increase response rates, open and click-through rates, and conversions

Project Management

+ Manage day-to-day activities associated with the development and delivery of finished work products with minimal supervision

+ Collaborate with others within the MMX department and AMA to understand their communications and messaging goals, and project requirements

+ Work with designers to align messaging and creative design to achieve a consistent tone

Creativity

+ Seek continuous understanding of the marketplace and target audiences through testing new variations on control creative to keep campaigns performing at maximum levels

+ Promote a continually improving creative environment based on best practices, and actively contributes to a culture of excellence and innovation by staying current on new approaches to membership marketing

May include other responsibilities as assigned REQUIREMENTS:

+ Bachelor’s degree in Advertising, Journalism, English, Integrated Marketing Communications or related discipline required. Master’s degree preferred.

+ Minimum 5+years’ experience writing and editing in advertising, public relations, marketing communications or related field required. Experience must include direct response and advertising writing with proven success in direct response channels.

+ Must be fluent in AP style

+ Strong logic, reasoning and problem-solving skills with solid research and fact-checking capabilities.

+ A results-driven writing style and understanding of how data informs messaging strategy with a demonstrated record of successful KPIs such as response rate, click through rate, click to open rate, and conversion rate, within the direct mail and email channels.

+ Experience with omni-channel marketing; ability to integrate print communications with digital communications.

+ Detail-oriented, versatile and creative professional with excellent organizational skills.

+ Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment both collaboratively and as a strong individual contributor

+ Project management skills required with the ability to manage multiple programs and projects with competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment sometimes leveraging the support of internal and external staff.

+ Familiarity with marketing tools such as: Google Analytics, Asana.
