Enterprise Applications Director

The Enterprise Applications Director at Caterpillar is responsible for strategically managing the application landscape across the organization. This includes overseeing the development, maintenance, and deployment of a diverse portfolio ranging from legacy to modern applications such as ERPs, manufacturing systems, order-to-delivery solutions, and pricing applications. The role involves extensive interaction with business partners to ensure alignment with strategic objectives and managing multiple enterprise-level transformation projects simultaneously. The director also oversees relationships with key IT delivery partners and contracts.

What You Will Do:

+ Leadership: Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing global team consisting of 4-6 managers, 12-15 IT supervisors, 175 Caterpillar management staff and 350-450 partner resources; ensuring professional development, collaboration and optimal performance.

+ Strategy and Vision: Define and drive the strategic direction for enterprise applications, ensuring alignment with the organization’s broader IT and business objectives. Understand and anticipate the direction of the business to identify opportunities and make recommendations to support the desired future state.

+ Application Management: Oversee the entire application lifecycle, from selection and procurement to development, customization, implementation, maintenance, and retirement. Responsible for execution of the application roadmap including projects and day-to-day operations. Ownership and delivery of a complex enterprise transformation portfolio, balancing priorities, business requirements, and resource constraints.

+ Budget Management: Develop and manage the budget for enterprise applications, ensuring cost-effectiveness and ROI. Ensure operational excellence across the application portfolio, including operational stability, budget management, and adherence to industry standard change and lifecycle development processes.

+ Collaboration: Build strong relationships with business leaders and segment CIOs to understand the business strategy and creation and Enterprise Application strategy and roadmap. This includes identifying plans for solution rationalization and simplification. Uphold cyber security, risk management, and compliance requirements to protect business integrity and brand reputation.

+ Change Management: Dive application-related change management initiatives, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal disruption.

Technical Skills

+ Software engineering & development: Designing and building digital and technology solutions that strengthen the core business and pioneer the future with expanded offerings that grow services.

+ Data & information enablement: Unleashing the power of data and information to manage the business, improve business results and outcomes.

+ ERP Systems: Deep understanding of enterprise resource planning systems, their integration, customization, and optimization.

+ Manufacturing Systems: Proficiency in managing and enhancing manufacturing execution systems (MES) and related technologies.

+ Cloud Solutions: Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) and their application in enterprise environments for scalability and flexibility.

+ Integration Technologies: Expertise in middleware and integration platforms to facilitate seamless data flow between different applications and systems.

+ Cybersecurity: Implement robust cybersecurity measures to protect applications, data, and infrastructure from cyber threats.

+ DevOps Practices : Champion DevOps methodologies to enhance collaboration between development and operations teams and streamline application delivery.

+ Degree or equivalent experience desired

+ The primary location for this position is Peoria, IL, Dallas, TX, or Nashville, TN.

+ This position requires you to work in the office three times a week, with some flexibility.
