Earth Sciences Fieldwork Specialist

Job Description

Our Environment Science division (EVS) is seeking a Earth Sciences Fieldwork Specialist to join their team. This specialist will work with staff at the Argonne Testbed for Multiscale Observational Science (ATMOS) on instrument integration, engineering of meteorological and other sensor networks and act as the assistant site manager for ATMOS.

In this role you can expect to:

+ Design, develop, and integrate sensor platforms

+ Engineer mounting platforms. Where needed fabricate new components

+ Perform QA/QC and datastreams

+ Work on a team deploy instrument platforms in the field

+ Assist the ATMOS site manager in inventory and management of assets across the site

+ Assist in the supervision of students and interns as appropriate for achieving ATMOS’ workforce development mission

+ Document development processes, procedures, and user guides

+ Assist ATMOS leadership in implementing safety controls

Position Requirements

Required skills and experience:

+ PT2: Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of experience, or a Master’s degree and 0+ years of experience, or equivalent

+ Experience in earth science fieldwork and deploying instrumentation in a complex setting

+ Experience integrating instruments with loggers, edge compute systems etc.

+ Programming language of Python and linux based systems

+ Hands on experience in mount fabrication

+ Ability to build standard operating procedures and field manuals for designed systems

+ Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork

Preferred skills and experience:

+ Knowledge of atmospheric sciences

+ Project organization and management
