Job Description

The People Business Partner (PBP) is a leader with a point of view that aligns People strategies with the business unit objectives. You will partner with functional business teams, mainly C-level executives and their direct reports, to establish and implement people programs/initiatives driven by data and analysis, also known as the Human Capital Strategy, in order to deliver on business objectives.

This role will be based in the US or Canada reporting to the Director, People Business Partner. Additionally, this role is part of the Executive’s leadership team and will lead a team of indirect reports across the People organization. The PBP is skilled in building effective partnerships with all levels of employees and has a demonstrated history of implementing successful programs that drive business results. This is an individual contributor role which requires influence with matrixed groups across the globe.

The PBP advises senior management in the development of solutions through organizational development, culture and process-oriented perspectives. Key skills and abilities include coaching, influencing, facilitation, presentation, communication, process development, analysis and problem solving.

Strategic partnership and alignment

+ Build partnerships across the organization to formulate the human capital strategy that drives the strategic objectives of the organization.

Thought leadership

+ Analyze business unit trends and metrics in partnership with the broader People Organization to develop solutions, programs, and policies to improve the People Organizations contribution to Cornerstone’s goals.

Organizational Design

+ Provide guidance and input on business unit restructurings, workforce planning, work process flow, roles and responsibilities, organizational planning, etc.

Organizational Effectiveness

+ Partner with both the business unit and People Organization to assess and effectively address needs in areas such as organizational design, performance management, compensation, career, competency, and leadership development.

+ Assess and anticipate employee related needs and communicate those needs to business unit leaders. Develop and integrate solutions to address the people objectives while maintaining focus on the business unit’s goals.

+ Actively support discussions to break down silos across the organization.

Employee Relations

+ Work closely with management, employees, and People Business Advisor (PBA) teams to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.

+ Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues. Support PBA team as needed to ensure effective, thorough, and objective investigations are completed.

+ Understand themes and hot spot areas working in conjunction with PBA teams to course correct as needed.

Process Improvement

+ Actively identify People gaps within the client organization and propose and implement changes necessary to appropriately address the risk(s).

+ Manage complex people projects cross-functionally.

+ Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, appropriately reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Collaborate with legal department as needed/required.

+ Provide People policy guidance and interpretation.

You’ve got what it takes if you have…..

+ 10+ years’ experience in general people management and/or a strategic partner role

+ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent post-secondary degree, or equivalent work experience

+ Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate client business plans and goals into a Human Capital Strategy, solutions, and programs.

+ Experience supporting a variety of functional teams for a global company

+ Excellent client management and business literacy skills

+ Exhibited commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment

+ Demonstrated success in utilizing influencing skills and working with senior members of the business, voicing an opinion even when not popular

+ Strong influence and negotiation skills

+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills

+ A depth of experience in employee development, management coaching, organizational design, compensation, employee relations, training, project management and program implementation

+ Business Insight – proven ability to diagnose problems and identify and drive appropriate solutions

+ Proven leadership in driving and executing people initiatives to achieve strategic objectives

+ Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with all levels of the organization

+ Successful change management and team development experience
