eLearning Specialist

College of Applied Health Sciences
The College of Applied Health Sciences ( AHS ) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is accepting applications for an eLearning Specialist. The eLearning Specialist will be responsible for working directly with AHS instructors on the design and implementation of their online and blended courses, supporting their use of instructional technologies, and helping to create rigorous online learning experiences.

Duties & Responsibilities

Design, develop and support online and blended courses
  • Work collaboratively with AHS instructors to design and develop rigorous and innovative online and blended courses.
  • Apply and disseminate various pedagogical theories, instructional design models, and best practices in online and other innovative education modalities.
  • Create and update course content within learning management systems.
  • Coordinate with appropriate stakeholders to review existing online courses and make revisions (e.g., assessments, content, formats).
  • Assist in the implementation and use of educational technologies.
  • Advise faculty on the adoption of best practices and guidelines for accessibility and universal design.
  • Ensure compliance with licensing and copyright laws and regulations.
  • Train, supervise and delegate tasks to student workers, interns and hourly staff, ensuring the quality and timely delivery of their work.
Support instructional faculty
  • Train and support instructors in the use of instructional technologies, including Canvas, Zoom, Kaltura and others.
  • Consult with faculty on the effective use of technology in online and blended learning, and research emerging educational technologies.
  • Develop online tutorials, technical documentation, training sessions and related web content for instructional technologies.
  • Provide troubleshooting support for instructional technologies.
Additional Physical Demands

Work is done mostly on-Campus with a hybrid schedule possible as needed, following AHS and UIUC policy. Some movement between buildings required.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Master's degree in education, educational psychology, or the humanities such as history, political science, literature, journalism, communications, or philosophy
    AND
    Six (6) months of experience which included any of the following areas professional writing or editing, audiovisual design and/or production, design and/or production of evaluation tools, educational programming, curriculum development, or classroom teaching
    OR
  2. Baccalaureate degree in education, educational psychology, or the humanities
    AND
    Eighteen (18) months of experience which included any of the following areas professional writing or editing, audiovisual design and/or production, design and/or production of evaluation tools, educational programming, curriculum development, or classroom teaching

Preferred Qualifications

3 years of eLearning/instructional design experience

Extensive experience with learning management systems and technology tools such Canvas, Zoom and Kaltura

Experience leading and managing multiple projects simultaneously

Online teaching experience

Experience working directly with faculty in higher education

Experience using H5P or other tools to create interactive learning experiences

Proficiency with HTML and CSS

Certificate in online teaching, instructional design, eLearning, Quality Matters or related

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical information to a non-technical audience

Keen attention to detail and organizational skills

Knowledge of best practices in standards-compliant responsive web design, accessibility, user-experience design and information architecture

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 3289 - Instructional Development Specialist position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 9/16/2024. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. The minimum salary for this position is $60,000 to $80,000 with the final salary offer determined through a thorough assessment of these elements.

Hybrid work options may be available for this position after an initial training/probationary period, but with the requirement that onsite availability may be needed at any time with short notice.

Work authorization is not available for this position.
