Job Summary

The University of Chicago Leadership and Society Initiative (LSI) is a yearlong, cohort-based fellowship that supports distinguished individuals at or nearing retirement to transition from their longstanding careers toward purposeful next chapters of leadership for society. The initiative has a two-part mission, to help individuals live more meaningful, connected, and fulfilling lives; and to help society by equipping these individuals with the frameworks, pathways, and community to drive significant, positive societal impact.

LSI is seeking an Associate Director, Fellow Recruitment and Alumni Engagement to grow and enhance the LSI fellow community by recruiting extraordinary individuals to serve as fellows and developing a robust alumni engagement strategy to deepen connections of former fellows year over year.

Reporting to the Director of the Leadership and Society Initiative, the Associate Director will be responsible for all aspects of fellow recruitment and the candidate experience, from building the prospect pool to delivering full cohorts. They will also lead alumni engagement, establishing recurring touchpoints, updates, and activities to support alumni as they activate their future leadership for society. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about individual growth, community building, leadership development, and societal impact.

This position independently executes admission strategies, policies, and procedures. Works with minimal guidance to recruit, interview, evaluate, and/or select applicants for admission and coordinates admissions across the University. Acts as a resource for students and parents regarding complicated queries related to the admissions process.

Responsibilities
  • Oversees the LSI recruitment calendar, including key events, communications, and partnerships to raise awareness of the program within our target audience and grow a healthy candidate pipeline.
  • Identifies and engages prospective fellows and introduces the LSI program, discussing the opportunity with relevant candidates and building a robust candidate pool by continually identifying and introducing new talent to the program.
  • Manages full LSI candidate pipeline, from prospect to enrollment; serves as first point of contact for candidate inquiries, current and prospective.
  • Identifies potential recruitment partnerships with relevant businesses, executive organizations, leadership networks, and civic coalitions that reflect the leaders LSI aims to support.
  • Prepares marketing and recruitment materials and plans and hosts recruiting events utilizing existing communications platforms to organize, disseminate, and track performance of outreach campaigns.
  • Collaborates with the LSI program team to remain fully abreast of program developments to communicate accurately and credibly with prospective candidates.
  • Maintains awareness of activities and changes in peer programs; keep team members apprised of relevant developments in the marketplace.
  • Travels periodically to engage candidates in regions with high concentrations of prospective candidates.
  • Designs and shepherds a comprehensive alumni engagement strategy and calendar of outreach and activities.
  • Supports the establishment of an Alumni Steering Committee comprised of representatives from each cohort of LSI Fellows. This Committee will meet on a recurring basis and serve as thought partners with the LSI team on opportunities to create value and connection through the alumni experience.
  • Manages alumni-focused events 2-3 times per year to support continued activation of their Purpose Plans, networking within the alumni community, and continued access to University resources.
  • Develops alumni-specific content, including updates on the initiative, updates on alumni efforts/leadership, and requests for input and ideas for the future of LSI.
  • Structures the creation of sub-groups within the broader alumni community based around shared interests such as societal issues (i.e. Fellows working in similar areas such education, public health, economic mobility, etc) and/or geography to bring together alums in regions outside Chicago.
  • Expands outreach messaging via alumni clubs and special events and/or reunions. Maintains updated alumni contact records and cultivates new contacts in appropriate industries. Manages portfolio of prospective students that require special handling.
  • Manages regional event programming such as receptions and career trek field trips for students. Works independently to expand outreach to employers in the region.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience:
  • Background with executive search or candidate recruitment.
  • Working with senior leaders in the public, nonprofit, and/or private sectors.
  • Significant project management and execution experience.

Preferred Competencies
  • Excellent communication skills shown through clear, structured and concise written and verbal presentation; tailor communications to audiences of varying backgrounds.
  • Confidence in public speaking a plus.
  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
