Career Advancement plays a vital role in ensuring our students' success after graduation. Career Advancement offers innovative and comprehensive career development services with a focus on pre-professional preparation, experiential education, and opportunities. Job Summary

The Senior Director, STEM Programs will leverage their managerial expertise, program management skills, and previous industry experience to drive new initiatives and oversee experiential programs designed to prepare students for successful careers in STEM. The Senior Director will manage program directors of multiple pre-professional programs, including, Careers in Biological Sciences, Climate and Energy Careers, Careers in Engineering, Careers in Computer Science and Careers in Physical Sciences.

This team member will work closely with senior leadership and campus partners, including academic departments, to advance strategic goals and engage alumni and parents across STEM career programs. Additionally, this staff member will oversee the expansion of external employer partnerships in STEM to develop new internship and full-time offerings for students.

This position requires the ability to manage staff, think strategically about program management and University priorities, and have a passion for working across teams and delegating tasks to execute new initiatives. The ideal candidate will be an energetic and talented individual contributor and team leader with a record of success in complex and collaborative fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities
  • Manages the Director, STEM Programs and program directors of STEM-related pre-professional programs.
  • Showcases strong desire and ability to lead team development.
  • Collaborates with senior leadership and campus partners to develop and execute a strategic vision for expanding STEM career support.
  • Develops original content for career-related publications and assists with the editing and distribution of Career Advancement communications materials, including, memos, agendas, newsletters, web content, presentations, and general email outreach.
  • Helps with designing effective experiential programming that supports the professional development of students pursuing careers in the sciences.
  • Oversees expansion of partnerships with STEM employers in the public, private, and non-profit sectors to create internship and full-time opportunities.
  • Supports Career Advancement in developing and maintaining relationships with campus partners and registered student organizations, as well as with a variety of parent and alumni volunteers.
  • Maintains efficient methods of tracking student data, quantifying student engagement, and reporting on student outcomes.
  • Assists students with professional resumes/cover letters, interview preparation, graduate school applications, general career guidance, and industry exploration discussions.
  • Develops new and current programs, such as on-campus recruiting events and career management programs, to support students and alumni in post-graduate planning and career pursuits.
  • Expands and enhances the University's corporate network through marketing and outreach strategies and meetings with employers and alumni to increase resources and employment opportunities to students.

Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Experience:
  • Managing a team.
  • Working in a higher education setting, either in program management, alumni relations, or strategic communications.
  • Expertise in the STEM field developed through professional experiences.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:
  • Expert proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Working Conditions
  • Work evenings, occasional additional weeknight and weekend days.
  • Travel one to two times per year.
