About Career Kickstart

Career Kickstart (CK) is a new career-focused program that leads to credentials and college credit for all students who want to prepare for a career, whether they are heading to 2- or 4- year colleges, technical schools, or the workforce. With a focus on high-demand fields like cybersecurity and health sciences, CK brings the best of AP to courses designed for career and technical education.

CK courses are powered by the AP features that educators value: robust teacher training, dedicated educator communities, free student resources, high quality assessments, and the broadest national network of college credit policies.

Students want more career exploration in high school to help them turn a passion into a profession, but many lack access to quality career-focused programs that lead to in demand jobs. College Board is building Career Kickstart in partnership with industry and higher education to assure national access to outstanding career education that today is only available in some communities. College Board's aim is to clear a path for all students to own their future, saving them time and money. Career Kickstart is an important new program to meet that mission.

About the Opportunity

As the Director of the Medical Assistant Pathway you will be a catalyst for change in expanding and diversifying the health science talent pipeline and creating opportunities for students to own their futures. You are an experienced health science course designer and teacher at the high school level, or at the post-secondary level with high schoolexperience/interaction. You are excited to apply your experience and knowledge with health science education to a role where you will design, pilot, launch, and manage a new Career Kickstart medical assistant pathway program for for high school students. You will also be responsible for the development and revision of instructional materials to ensure all courses are engaging and relevant for students and you will collaborate on assessment design and items.

Your deep commitment to educational equity and the potential of all students will be a major asset as you work to ensure the medical assistant course is designed to serve a diverse group of hundreds of thousands of high school students. Your experience providing consultation and implementing processes and strategies allows you to work effectively with teachers, higher education faculty, employers and workforce committees, and a diverse set of advisors to refine the course content, develop instructional and assessment materials, and train teachers.

In this role, you will:

Product Strategy, Design & Launch

  • Survey the high school offerings, industry/workforce labor needs, IRC market and design a Medical Assistant pathway for high school students

  • Build a standing advisory committee - made up of K-12 leaders, higher education professors and industry experts - to provide input and advice on the course and the associated assessment, instructional materials, and teacher training.

  • Maintain a deep understanding of the career technical education (CTE) landscape and health science pathways. Translate knowledge and updates in the field into Career Kickstart's program strategy and improvements.

  • Support workstreams to ensure product/program delivers exceptional user experience to students, educators, and schools.

  • Work with cross-functional teams to ensure program vision is translated into key policy design choices and technical requirements, and that development roadmap stays on track.

Course Development

  • Responsible for designing, writing, updating, and maintaining the Course Exam Description (CED) in alignment with industry and higher education standards, ensuring it is relevant and valuable to students taking the course.

  • Coordinate a broad coalition of stakeholders - including expert high school teachers, industry experts, and higher education leaders - to ensure the pathway and assessment meet state standards and align to secondary, postsecondary, and industry needs and requirements.

  • Collaborate with external curriculum development providers to ensure curriculum materials are aligned with course content and skills, support the overarching pathway goals, and provide high quality materials for teachers and students.

Professional Learning and Instruction

  • Plan and deliver high quality in-person professional learning to support teachers from a wide range of backgrounds in successfully teaching the courses in the pathway in collaboration with the instruction team.

  • Develop high quality instructional lesson plans aligned to the course frameworks that support teachers in engaging students in hands-on learning experiences. And review and revise lesson plans submitted by outside writers.

Assessment

  • Collaborate with the assessment team on the assessment strategy and design

  • Provide input on formative and summative assessment strategies

  • Develop formative and summative assessment materials, including sample questions and task models

  • Review assessment questions and forms

Advocacy

  • Represent the Career Kickstart program and the medical assistant pathway with internal and external stakeholders

  • Present about the medical assistant pathway at national conferences

About You

You have:

  • A degree in Health Science or a related fieldora degree in teaching required

  • Three years' experience teaching postsecondary or high school health science courses with a focus on the medical assistant pathway

  • Experience with design and implementation of professional development as well as experience with instructional design and content development required

  • Passion for health science education

  • Proven ability to manage and/or launch new projects

  • High degree of personal ownership and accountability to consistently deliver results in a fast-paced and high-profile environment

  • Comfort with ambiguity and an entrepreneurial mindset

  • Natural curiosity and a commitment to continuous learning

  • Strong organizational and time management skills with a process-oriented mindset

  • Excellent interpersonal, collaborative, and communication skills; demonstrated ability to establish positive working relationships at all levels of the organization

  • Thorough understanding of the CTE landscape and experience with career-focused education offerings (e.g., coursework, credentials) that are successfully adopted in K-12, including development processes, state/district needs, emerging technologies, go-to-market strategies, partnership integrations, etc. Preferred

  • Ability to travel up to approximately 10-20% of the year

  • You are eligible to work in the US for any employer

About Our Process

  • The hiring range for a new employee in this position is $80,000 to $135,000. College Board differentiates salaries by location so where you live will narrow the portion of this range in which you can expect a salary.

  • Your salary will be carefully determined based on your location, relevant experience, the external labor market, and the pay of College Board employees in similar roles. College Board strives to provide our best offer up front based on this criteria.
