POSITION TITLE: Executive Director of Advancement
LOCATION/DEPT: DHQ-Development
REPORTS TO (TITLE): Divisional Commander
FLSA CATEGORY: Exempt

OUTCOMES
The primary purpose of the position is to provide leadership, direction, and coordination to all the Development Department's staff for the NCI Division including corps and non-corps service units to meet the Division's annual budget contribution and relationship goals. The incumbent ensures strategic and operational plans are developed and successfully implemented in an integrated and synchronized manner for all areas of Fundraising, Marketing, and Communications to support the whole philanthropic mission of The Salvation Army (TSA). The incumbent builds and maintains positive relationships with a wide range of contacts both within and outside TSA as well as represents the NCI Division territorially and nationally in Development and Communication matters in cooperation with the Divisional Commander.

Provides leadership, direction and management oversight for the development, communications, and volunteer services functions for the NCI Division.
Develops and oversees the implementation of strategic, long-term and operational plans for all areas of fundraising, marketing, and community relations in partnership with divisional leadership to ensure an integrated and synchronized approach to the philanthropic mission of the NCI Division.
Serves as a member of the Divisional Finance Board and Advisory Board and as a representative of TSA and its mission in the broader constituency within and outside the organization.
Facilitates education and communications with the Division regarding development and communications activities, including utilizing the support and expertise of volunteers.
Provides fundraising/public relations counsel to divisional corps officers, department leaders, and appropriate others regarding capital and annual campaigns, feasibility studies, board development, special events, direct mail, strategic planning and donor relations including cultivation and recognition activities.
Plans and directs fundraising initiatives within the division/region in collaboration with the Divisional Commander, Advisory Board and other Territorial leaders as to meet or exceed the division's financial, marketing, resources development, and communications objectives.
Develops and acquires research data, through surveys and feasibility studies, which provides directional guidance for fundraising initiatives within the Division.
Manages the budget for the Development department for the Division, including approving expense reports within the department.
Trains and engages Advisory Board members so they can be effective participants in fundraising and communications within their respective communities.
Provides supervision and mentoring to development staff; provides a clear vision, effective communications and leadership to create a team environment dedicated to the objectives of the department and the Division.
Works with development department heads and THQ leadership to develop measurable metrics to drive and evaluate desired performance.
Functions as the divisional liaison to THQ leadership and staff for all areas related to Development, Community Relations, Capital Campaigns, and National Corporate Campaign initiatives.
Serves as the point person and subject matter expert for all matters pertaining to Development for the Division and an effective spokesperson for TSA locally and divisionally.
Maintains accurate records and reports for fundraising results for the Division.
Monitors and reviews progress on Development goals with department leaders in the Division; meets regularly with Development staff to ensure goals are achieved.
