Job Description

Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is under the supervision of the Quality Assurance Directorate, Quality Assurance Inspection Program Division, In Procsess Inspections Branch. Responsibilities Performs close tolerance acceptance inspection of highly critical complex manufactured components, sub-assemblies, and complete assemblies requiring numerous steps in the manufacturing process. Inspects various designs, types, and sizes of artillery carriages, trails, gun mounts, and hydro-pneumatic recoil systems required to support the Army, other government agencies, and foreign military sales of weapon systems. Evaluates the accuracy of the manufacturing process during and after production for product acceptance purposes using statistical process control and statistical problem-solving techniques. Performs random on-site/in process inspection verification and validation of both product and process. Inspects for compliance to technical requirements including complicated blueprints which are often difficult to interpret and include several dimensioning systems. Initiates and maintains all required records and test reports. Provides product inspection data and technical inspection expertise for use in serial evaluation committees. Provides inspection technical support to production and engineering problems. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Machine Tool Work Inspector ~ without more than normal supervision which includes performing inspections of components, sub-assemblies and complete assemblies; knowledge of metals, casting and forgings etc.; skill in using precision measurement instruments and machines; use of advance shop mathematics; utilizing a variety of measuring equipment ad testing equipment in a manufacturing environment. – Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Work requires moderate physical exertion, primarily walking and standing on hard surfaces with occasional periods of bending, stooping, and climbing. Required to lift/carry items weighing up to 44 lbs. Mechanical lifting devices/other employees are available to assist with lift of 45 lbs. and over Working Conditions: Work is usually performed in a well-lighted, heated, and ventilated shop. Inspector is exposed to constant noise, coolants, solvents, oils, grease, operating machinery and moving vehicles. May be assigned to second or third shift in accordance with the current negotiated agreement.
