Civil Engineer V

Starting Salary: $102,876.00/year

This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City’s collective bargaining agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) – BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.

Chicago’s Department of Transportation is seeking a Civil Engineer V to serve as a project engineer for complex infrastructure and building construction, maintenance and renovation projects, or function as a working supervisor over a small engineering staff while maintaining own projects; and performs related duties as required

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

· Update Status Spreadsheets for active construction contracts.

· Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports for construction contracts.

· Receive & Manage project documentation files and assign for auditing.

· Contact REs to resolve pending issues on construction contracts.

· Prepare progress pay vouchers for construction contracts.

· Prepare change order packages and requisitions for construction contracts.

· Manage progress payment reconciliations between city and vendors.

· Create and attend meetings with various stakeholders, management and contractors

· Perform closeout audits for term and standard construction projects

· Participate in development of data management systems

· Generate input on current/previous/future construction management software development

· Duties applicable to the development and use of EPS

Additional duties may be required for this position

Qualifications:

· Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a directly related field of engineering supplemented by three years of progressively responsible Civil Engineering experience including one year of supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience, provided the minimum degree requirement is met.

· Registration as a Professional Engineer (R.P.E.) is required. At the time of employment, positions must have obtained Registration as a Professional Engineer (R.P.E.) in the State of Illinois. Some positions may require a valid State of Illinois driver’s license.

NOTE: Ability to access work sites during various stages of construction or repair

This position requires applicants to complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected.
