Job Title: Play School Instructor – Part-Time / Non-Exempt

Reports To: Activities Coordinator

The play school instructor is responsible for the planning, organization, and implementation of developmentally appropriate activities within the Playschool program for babies / toddlers and their parents . You will be working hands-on, leading arts and crafts, story time, engage sing a long’s, and imaginative play, while fostering participants social and emotional development, in a safe play-based learning environment. The position is a part-time position which reports to the Activity Coordinators.

Essential Job Functions Include:

+ Work in conjunction with fellow staff members to support and achieve the goals and objectives of ComEd Recreational Facility.

+ Lead classroom activities and practice active supervision of participants at all times.

+ Provide direct instruction to children using a variety of teaching methods, such as storytelling, games, and structured play.

+ Maintain class attendance.

+ Ensure classroom and equipment is maintained properly and supplies are stored in an orderly fashion in the storage closets.

+ Maintain a positive, safe and nurturing environment.

+ Ensures that safety standards are met, and department and facility policies are adhered to.

+ Maintain open and ongoing communication with parents or guardians regarding their child’s progress and behavior

+ Provide positive and professional communication with participants and parents.

+ Ensure the safety of all participants during classes and performances, and report any problems, unsafe conditions, behavior issues and accidents to the management.

+ Develop age-appropriate curriculum to stimulate and engage children, including activities that promote physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development.

+ Uphold ethical standards and professional conduct in interactions with children, parents, colleagues, and community members.

+ Other duties and tasks as assigned.

Work Hours

+ The work schedule is Saturdays and Sundays 8:30am-12:30pm

Qualifications

+ Possess knowledge of child development

+ Excellent communication skills and ability to work well with the general public, parents, and fellow staff members.

+ Experience working with students ages 1 – 5

+ Early childhood experience

+ Ability to maintain a positive and SAFE environment for all participants.

+ Must possess current Red Cross CPR certification.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally must aide or assist participants.
