Position Summary The Education Coordinator for NYAP’s La Jornada (The Journey) Program focusing on Long-Term Foster Care (LTFC) is responsible for coordinating education for minors who have fled their country of origin and arrived in the U.S. without a parent or legal guardian, and managing a team of Youth Advocates. RESPONSIBILITIES The Education Coordinator will perform duties including, but not limited to:

+ Performing all work in a manner consistent with the National Youth Advocate Program’s Mission, Values and Philosophies.

+ Serving as the educational coordinator ensuring all services provided reflect NYAP’s mission, vision and values.

+ Managing a team of Youth Advocates and their caseloads.

+ Coordinating public school enrollment for minor.s

+ Under the direction of Lead Education Coordinator, implement a weekly mentoring and vocational program as defined by program plan.

+ Carry out events listed on a yearly calendar that incorporates field trips, workshops and cultural acculturation opportunities.

+ Provide on-site management and leadership for the on-site education center for youth at the assigned location.

+ Serve as liaison with post-secondary entities such that provide trainings in high growth fields.

+ Coordinate travel of minors when needed.

+ Ensure curriculum and activities delivered at the education center meet the needs of individual children.

+ Ensure youths’ progress and services are assessed and documented and use the data to evaluate the effectiveness of the curriculum and activities and the wellbeing of the youth.

+ Serving as liaison to ensure minors have an advocate in matters of academic progress, behavior concerns, school suspension and/or expulsion and develop alternative plan for supervision when needed.

+ Maintaining regular communication with foster families and program administration staff.

+ Ensuring all area program records are maintained in a confidential manner and site reports are timely, complete and accurate.

+ Meeting ORR training requirements and following ORR policies and field guidelines.

+ Performing all duties in accordance with personnel policies and fiscal guidelines.

+ Performing other duties as requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

+ Bachelor’s degree preferred. Experience working with community based providers.

+ 3 years of progressive supervisory experience.

+ Bilingual English/Spanish fluency required.

+ Valid Driver’s License and auto insurance required.

+ Proficient use of desktop and laptop computers, internet search, people management programs, smart phones and tablets, printers, fax machines and photocopiers as well as software including word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.

OTHER SKILLS

+ Demonstrate a high degree of customer service and relationship building abilities.

+ Must be able to embrace working as a diverse team both effectively and respectfully with persons of any background, race, color, religion, sexual orientation, ability, national origin, or culture.

+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong project management, leadership, and team building skills.

+ Ability to work independently as well as part of an extended cross-functional team.

+ Occasional overnight travel may be required.
