Youth Counselor RYIS

Location: Steger, IL Position Summary Responsible in providing evidence-informed, age-appropriate youth intervention services in the following areas: Mentoring, Caregiver Involvement, Safe Place Programming, Life Skills, Employment Readiness and Development to the highest-risk Greater Illinois communities. Hours: 11am – 7pm Compensation: $16 per hour Responsibilities The Youth Counselor will perform duties including, but not limited to:

+ Provide individual and group mentoring sessions to youth participants.

+ Develop and implement violence prevention programs and workshops.

+ Conduct assessments to identify the needs and strengths of each participant.

+ Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for youth.

+ Collaborate with schools, families, and community organizations to coordinate services and support for participants.

+ Provide group curriculum geared toward program outcomes.

+ Effective group facilitation with behavior management skills.

+ Maintain accurate records of mentoring sessions, progress notes, and any other required documentation.

+ Facilitate conflict resolution and provide crisis intervention as needed.

+ Educate youth about the effects of violence and teach coping strategies and conflict management skills.

+ Plan and lead activities that promote social skills, self-esteem, and positive peer relationships.

+ Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications

+ HS Diploma/GED Required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

+ 5-10 years of experience in victim services, outreach services, community programs, criminal justice or related experience.

+ Specialized training in assisting victims of violence crimes is desirable.

+ Must possess good verbal, listening, and written communication skills.

+ The working conditions described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this class.

+ The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, balance, bend at the waist, crouch, kneel, twist, use foot controls, and operate a motor vehicle. The employee must frequently lift carry and/or push/pull up to twenty pounds (20 lbs.).

+ The employee is frequently required to sit, talk, or hear.

+ The employee is frequently required to use hands to grasp, finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls.

+ Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, and peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.

+ The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud.

+ Works in outdoor weather conditions.

Driving and Vehicle Requirements

+ Valid driver’s license

+ Reliable personal transportation

+ Good driving record

+ Minimum automobile insurance coverage of $100,00/$300,000 bodily injury liability
