Position Title: Lead Transportation Specialist

Position Summary The Lead Transporter Specialist for NYAP’s La Jornada (The Journey) Program focusing on transitional foster care (TFC), will be responsible for coordinating transportation, leading a group of transportation specialists and physically escorting children to be unified with sponsors across the U.S. RESPONSIBILITIES

+ Must be able to travel out of state up to 40%-50% for unification efforts.

+ Performs all work in a manner consistent with the National Youth Advocate Program’s Mission, Values and Philosophies

+ Coordinates transportation on behalf of Program transportation specialists, including organizing logistics related to travel, travel destinations, arranging age/gender appropriate transportation escorts, and supervising youth while in transit to scheduled and emergency appointments.

+ Coordinates and performs transportation to medical, mental health and emergency appointments, as well as transportation to foster parent’s homes, and other locations as needed. Coordinates and performs unification transports with team.

+ Maintains a transportation log and daily roster of times, dates, destinations, transporters and length of transport.

+ Ensures transportation specialists maintain vehicles in safe working order by complying with all local licensing requirements and State and Federal regulations, maintaining and inspecting all vehicles used for transportation.

+ Ensures adequate transportation of children with special needs in vehicles that can best accommodate their needs.

+ Complete a vehicle inspection report, including an odometer reading, following

+ each trip.

+ Create and maintain a manifest of children transported and account for each child at

+ exit or entrance of the vehicle.

+ Regularly maintain and inspect all vehicles used for transportation and take immediate action for any defect that could render the vehicle unsafe and/or inoperable.

+ Provide documentation of all missed appointments or unusual events to program leadership.

+ Provide car seat safety training to all new hires.

+ Perform other, additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

+ High school diploma or GED.

+ Experience working with at-risk youth.

+ Bilingual English/Spanish fluency is required.

+ Excellent time management and organization skills.

+ Excellent written and oral skills.

+ Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, automotive insurance, and a good driving record.

+ Minimum automobile insurance coverage of $100,000/300,000 bodily injury liability.

+ The supervision and transport of youth requires prolonged periods of walking and standing and physical agility. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Will be required to complete Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) and CPR training.

+ Work non-traditional hours that may include evenings, early morning, weekends and holidays. Schedule will vary depending on transport need; flexibility is needed.
