This is a hybrid position based out of our Northbrook, IL corporate office. A day in the life as a Senior Corporate Counsel, Contracts…

+ Oversee, manage and continuously improve contract review and approval process to facilitate efficient contract flow and organized record keeping; develop and provide training to associates on the contract review and approval process as needed

+ Manage the Company’s contract approval and repository tool

+ Review, draft and negotiate contracts and other legal arrangements and instruments, either directly or with outside counsel, in close collaboration with internal clients to achieve favorable and appropriate terms for the Company while mitigating risk

+ Possess a sufficient level of expertise in the business operations and relevant systems, policies and procedures of the Company in order to deliver swift, sound and tailored legal advice on assigned functional areas and other subject matters as applicable

+ Manage outside counsel relationships to ensure that the Company is receiving high-quality legal services at cost-effective rates

+ Represent the Company’s legal function within the retail industry and the broader business community, including participation in industry trade groups and in legal associations, as appropriate

+ Participate in continuing legal education opportunities as required to maintain a valid law license and be a member in good standing in at least one U.S. state bar, and to remain current on legal issues applicable to the responsibilities of the position

+ Perform other duties and complete projects and assignments as assigned

+ Ability to maintain strict confidentiality

+ Exemplary ethics and professionalism

+ Ability to handle tight deadlines, changing priorities, multiple and simultaneous issues of immediate concern and high stress situations and effectively prioritize

+ Strong analytical and risk management skills

+ Ability to weigh legal risks and opportunities against business goals and priorities

+ Practical problem solver

+ Understand technology and communication resources relevant to the position

We’d love to hear from you if you have…

+ 7+ years experience in private practice or corporate legal department setting, including direct experience negotiating and drafting contracts

+ Prior experience with contract management tools a plus

+ J.D. from an accredited law school

+ Member in good standing of at least one U.S. state bar
