The Office of Risk Management is committed to supporting a safe educational, work and research environment, by providing the Board of Trustees, Officers, and leaders of academic and administrative units with a framework and set of expert services that ensure the University has the resources to pursue its mission in a sound, compliant and effective way. Our goal is to assist University stakeholders in achieving their own objectives, while ensuring institutional compliance and managing a wide range of risk exposures created by the University's programs and operations. To accomplish this, we strive to promote a safe and healthy environment for students, staff and visitors while also ensuring appropriate processes are in place to identify, assess, manage, monitor and finance risk. The Department is a unit of the Office of Finance and Administration and aims to provide stronger support for safety services to members of the University community.

Job Summary

The Youth Program Coordinator will serve as a focal point for promoting and ensuring compliance with the University's policies and procedures relating to minors on campus and in University programs. The Youth Program Coordinator will also be responsible for monitoring the effectiveness of such policies, provide support and education to leaders and staff of youth-serving programs, maintain the inventory of such programs, and generally serve as a University-wide resource on matters relating to the protection of minors associated with the University. The Youth Program Coordinator will be the internal expert on requirements for the mandatory reporting of child abuse and neglect. The Coordinator will coordinate efforts to promote the wellbeing of minors in University-affiliated programs. The Coordinator also will serve as an access point for minors and their parents.

The Youth Program Coordinator will report to the Executive Director of Risk Management.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinates with other offices on campus for education, training, regular dissemination of information on topics related to job duties.
  • Monitors federal, state, and local laws that may have an impact on the University and make recommendations to senior administrators regarding compliance strategies.
  • Conducts a periodic census of University-affiliated youth programs, assessing policy compliance and reporting results and any associated recommendations to the Executive Director of Risk Management.
  • Provides advice and assistance on mandatory reporting and coordination in response to any incidents.
  • Serves as a central resource for training materials, best practices and guidelines, forms, and contract provisions related to youth-serving programs.
  • Develops and provides tools and online resources to assist in meeting policy requirements, such as background screening, template documentation, registration, training, abuse or neglect reporting, etc.
  • Manages records-retention of mandated reports of abuse background checks, training, and other preventive measures.
  • Prepares and distributes information describing the University's youth-serving programs for senior management, legal counsel, human resources and other appropriate University units in the appropriate level of detail.
  • Develops and manages a comprehensive website covering all areas of responsibility.
  • Coordinates with state and local child welfare agencies and law enforcement.
  • Provides advice to senior management regarding policy requirements.
  • Communicates findings to the Executive Director of Risk Management and advises on the appropriate remediation and management of significant risks.
  • Effective project management.
  • Provides administrative support in all of the areas of Risk Management.
  • Participates on University committees as assigned.
  • Coordinates department or clinic compliance with a moderate level of guidance.
  • Prepares, completes and submits all compliance documentation on a routine basis. Coordinates compliance committee meetings.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:
  • College degree in criminal justice, criminal law, pre-law or other related field.

Experience:
  • Higher education industry experience highly desired.

Technical Skills or Knowledge:
  • Basic knowledge of laws and issues related to minors.
  • Personal computer skills with knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • General understanding of safety practices.
  • General understanding of higher education compliance and regulatory environment.

Preferred Competencies
  • Work successfully with the University community of faculty, students and staff and with external organizations such as the University's insurance brokers, outside legal counsel, claims administrators and actuaries.
  • Recognize risk issues in complex, ambiguous activities and relationships.

Work Conditions
  • Hybrid role with as needed time in office.
  • Travel across campus multiple times daily.
  • Sitting at a work station including desktop computer.
  • Availability to respond to emergencies 24 hours-a-day, 7 days per week.
