Job Summary
The Production Department Supervisor Trainee will assist with the overall operation of their assigned department consistent with cost, profit and production goals. They are responsible for the training and development of their employees. They will develop experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals (some creativity and latitude is expected). They work under the supervision of a manager and develop methods and assist in their implementation to achieve plans and goals of the department.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities
Will develop comprehensive knowledge of operation of multiple departments and/or multiple shifts.
Manages the activity of a group of employees.
Identifies, researches, and resolves various problems and opportunities consistent with Continuous Improvement process.
Assists in evaluating performance of individuals and various programs.
Coaches and counsels employees.
Manages activities consistent with all UFP policies, procedures, and applicable law.
Communicates to employees and other management members as required.
Assists in managing department inventory
Helps lead employees in continuous improvement and safety initiatives.
Prepares reports and maintains records as required.
Participates in Safety Committee and ensures that department is in compliance with established safety standards.
Participates in Quality Committee and ensures compliance with ISO9001 standards.
May drive a forklift to assist moving material to and from the production area
Performs other duties as required.
Participates in supervisor training program which is a 6 month program (may be longer depending on class availability) consisting of a blend of online and in-person training.
Participates in mentorship meetings.
Assists with plant start-up.

Qualifications
High school education is recommended but not required
Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in manufacturing
Basic knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook and other business software is recommended but not required.
Basic knowledge on lumber math, lumber grades and species.
Preferred understanding on company policies, practices and procedures.
Successfully complete Forklift Driver licensing process
Willingness to travel to training classes and for business purposes when needed.
Bilingual a plus
