JOB TITLE: Safety and Workers' Compensation Administrator
DEPARTMENT: Human Resources Department
LOCATION: City Hall, 419 Fulton Street, Room 202, Peoria, Illinois
HOURS: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. - Monday through Friday
SALARY: 2024 Management Grade 124 $87,368 to $108,626

The City of Peoria seeks a skilled and dedicated Safety and Worker's Compensation Administrator to oversee workers' compensation and safety operations. The Safety and Workers' Compensation Administrator performs a high degree of professional work under minimal supervision and exercises independent judgement and initiative
 Examples of Duties

Workers' Compensation:
Manage and oversee all aspects of the city's self-insured workers' compensation program, including claims monitoring, negotiating settlements, estimating costs, and reviewing accident reports.
Advocate for and seek cost-efficient treatment plans for injured employees by managing the coordination of medical care, rehabilitation, and light-duty programs to support recovery and reduce lost work hours.
Coordinate and oversee the work of external vendors, medical providers, third party administrators, legal advisors, and city departments, to ensure timely and accurate injury reporting, communication and claim resolution.
Participate in alternative dispute resolution, workers' compensation hearings, and lawsuits.
Safety:
Proactively design and maintain safety policies and procedures, and develop, coordinate and provide safety training sessions for employees.
Conduct safety audits and inspections in all departments to identify potential hazards.
Investigate workplace accidents to determine causes and implement preventive measures.
Minimize risk, reduce costs, and create a culture of safety and well-being within the city.
Compliance and Regulatory:
Develop and maintain policies and procedures to comply with all State and Federal regulations.
Stay informed of changes to OSHA standards and integrate them into city safety protocols.
Manages drug testing for random, post-accident, post-injury, Department of Transportation (DOT) standards, and reasonable suspicion situations for existing employees.
Monitor changes in employment law to ensure that city policies and procedures remain compliant with the latest legal requirements.
 Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in human resource management, occupational health, business administration, or related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Three to five years of progressively more responsible job-related experience. A valid Driver's License is required for the position.

Preferences:
Minimum of 3 years of experience in workers' compensation claims management or related field.
Strong understanding of workers' compensation laws, regulations, and best practices.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and work independently with attention to detail.
Proficiency in relevant software applications, including database management and reporting tools.
