The Director, Procurement will sit within the Project Procurement Team, and lead a team of three Procurement Managers to support EPC and BoP construction tendering, negotiating, and contracting for projects (solar, wind, and BESS) in RWE's South and West Regions.
Responsibilities:
Manage a team of three Procurement Managers to support tendering, negotiating, and executing contracts to support RWE projects in the South and West regions.
Supervise the teams day to day activities and be a point of escalation where needed.
Support the team with personal development and training.
Set the team's objectives & performance management.
Develop relationships with senior management within the RWE development, construction, and engineering teams to determine business demand & secure approval for transactions through the EPC Contractor Selection Committee.
Develop a thorough and comprehensive understanding of all development projects situated in the South and West regions and develop planning processes to ensure equipment, engineering, and construction contracting is kicked off in time for project approvals.
Ensure thorough project details are collected collated and communicated to the VP of Project Procurement in advance of the weekly EPC Contractor Selection Committee.
Support the team in capturing business demands and handle competitive tendering, negotiation, and contract execution for solar and co-located battery storage and solar projects.
Support the team to review and level vendor proposals and negotiate with suppliers to secure competitive pricing and mitigate complex risk through negotiation of applicable terms and conditions.
Understand and maintain knowledge of the solar EPC construction services market, and develop and implement strategies to ensure a cost-effective supply of EPC services to meet the build plan.
Develop tendering and contracting strategies to support RWE Americas' Growth Targets.
Manage documentation, budgets, schedules, and key stakeholder interfaces in preparation for weekly management meetings.
Act as the escalation point of contact to suppliers in the sourcing process and coordinate interfaces with RWE's Business, Finance and Commercial, Technical, Legal, and Health and Safety Teams.
Manage the team in managing the full sourcing process (including demand/market analysis, RFI, RFPs, Negotiations, Contracting, and Supplier Awarding) in close collaboration with key stakeholders and in line with RWE policies, procedures, and processes.
Guide and support stakeholders with any contract implementation, contract management, or supplier-related issues.
Maintain active pricing history and data for Solar EPCs.
Reporting to the VP of Project Procurement.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required with a preference for Engineering, Supply Chain, Construction, or Business Management
Minimum 12years of experience in the Renewable Energy Industry with a focus on negotiating Solar EPC contracts
People management experience desirable
Thorough knowledge of the competitive bid process of EPC contracts and negotiation techniques
Experience in drafting, negotiating, and contract management of high-value and high-risk major construction project contracts
Knowledge (suppliers, markets, trends) of the renewable energy industry
Experience in applying efficient procurement processes, structures, and analytical tools
Experience in liaising with senior management within critical departments & building good relationships
Highly developed analytical and communication skills, combined with a structured work style and a pragmatic hands-on approach
Ability to challenge "conventional" thinking, consider others' views, and convince with facts considering a proactive approach to overcome resistance
Strong eye for detail and ensuring accuracy in the exchange of information and contracts
Team player with strong negotiation skills and commercial acumen
Experience and willingness to work independently in a fast-changing environment and in an international team
Sound knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and SAP. Ability to learn new systems and tools rapidly.
Readiness to travel both nationally and internationally
