Position Summary

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is seeking an organized, professional, and results oriented individual to serve as Consent Unit Specialist.  Under general supervision, this position will serve on a statewide hotline as guardianship liaison for all DCFS youth in care, providing verbal and/or written consents for requests, including but not limited to medical, psychotropic medication, hospital admissions and discharges, release of information, travel, research, enrichment activities, and psychological treatments for children under DCFS custody and guardianship.  This position provides a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about children and ensuring their health and safety and promoting social development.  DCFS offers a competitive compensation plan, excellent benefits, and a pension program.  The ideal candidate for this position will have excellent organizational skills and strong communication skills.  We invite you to join our innovative team to help make a positive difference in the lives of the children and families of Illinois.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Serves as Consent Authorized Agent
  2. Serves as an advocate for children in DCFS care, making determinations regarding medical and psychological service needs
  3. Works to ensure that consent approvals and denials are received by caseworker and provider on the same day as processed
  4. Clinically reviews, assesses, and provides consent to private agency providers concerning DCFS youth in care
  5. Monitors medically complex cases
  6. On a rotating basis, serves as supervisor in his/her absence
  7. Provides in-service training regarding the coordination of guardianship services with case-related functions to DCFS and private agency staff, health care providers, etc.
  8. On an as-needed basis, testifies in court regarding consent issues
  9. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
