Job Description:We are seeking a proactive and dedicated Learning Assistant to join our new Math Learning Community at Joliet Junior College. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about mathematics and education to support both faculty and students in achieving academic success.

POSITION TITLE: Student Employee,Learning Assistant
STATUS: Part-time

REPORTS TO: Adam Wouk
CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt
MINIMIUM PAY RATE: $14.00 per hour
(This is a FWS position)

ESSENTIALJOBDUTIESANDKEYRESPONSIBILITIES
1. Classroom Support: Assist faculty members during lectures, demonstrations, and in-class activities. Working with students in class to help them with coursework.
2. Tutoring and Mentoring: Provide individual and group tutoring sessions to clarify complex mathematical concepts, assist with problem-solving, and reinforce learning objectives. Student will host regular office hours in the tutoring department. All learning assistants will receive official CRLA tutoring training.
3. Grading Assistance: Assist in grading assignments, quizzes, and exams, ensuring accuracy and providing constructive feedback to students.

MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS
1. GPA of 2.5 or above. GPA of 3.0 or above in math classes.
2. Enrolled in 6 credit hours toward your declared major atJJC.
3. Advanced coursework in mathematics or a related field; enrollment in or completion of upper-level mathematics courses preferred.
4. Strong knowledge and understanding of mathematical principles and theories.
5. Effective communication and interpersonal skills to engage with students, faculty, and staff.
6. Previous tutoring, teaching assistant, or mentoring experience desirable.
7. Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Education, Psychology or Sociology major
2. Bilingual
3. Honors Student

Scheduled Weekly Hours: This is a student employee position that works around your class schedule. May work up to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters. During summer and holiday breaks (Winter/Spring), may work up to 28 hours per week with supervisor approval.
