Purpose

The Insurance department is responsible for supporting Director, Insurance, in implementing and managing advanced insurance programs that support strategic priorities and demonstrate effective compliance and corporate governance to its stakeholders.

The person acting in this role provides support to key insurance management initiatives which includes the management of the organization's insurance program. Key objectives include supporting Director, Insurance, and the members of the insurance team in managing and maturing the organization's Insurance strategy

Accountabilities

Support insurance team with renewal activities for Algonquin and its group of companies. Obtain, organize, and present insurance underwriting data to accommodate operating requirements or changing strategies
Respond to insurance related inquiries from internal groups, lenders and suppliers/contractors
Support insurance team in analyzing and understanding insurable risks and potential risk mitigation opportunities; act as liaison between operational and procurement groups, management, brokers and vendors to ensure coordination between project activities, exposures, and appropriate insurance coverage, to ensure risk transfer mechanisms in contracts are optimal, considering the nature of services provided
Support the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual risk reports for various committee and board reporting. Assist in preparing loss analyses and budgets and in determining ways to reduce the company's total cost of risk
Correspond with and coordinate activities between insurance brokers and internal teams in Canada, US, Chile and Caribbeans
Coordinate insurance related underwriting for acquisitions of new entities, assets and new construction projects in North America and the rest of the world, and support new entity transition and onboarding activities
Maintain and audit Statement of Values - collaborate with finance and operations teams to ensure current values are reflected and changes in data are updated at least quarterly
Work with insurers, EHS, operations and technical services on identifying opportunities for loss control
Deliver on special projects as needed within the Insurance Department
Review insurance policies and endorsements for accuracy and completeness. Ensure any policy changes are corrected and documented property. Maintain up to date insurance data, records, policies of insurance and related documents
Maintain accurate records of incident reports/claims on internal claims system, monitors claims to ensure timely and appropriate closure, coordinate and lead quarterly claim calls. Generate data for claims presentation and analysis
Manage certificate of insurance requests

Education and Experience

3-5 years of professional experience
High level of competency utilizing common computer software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Risk Management Certification / Designation - CIP, CRM. Experienced in administration of insurance programs (Power and Utilities, renewable energy industry experience would be strong asset)
Experience with international insurance placements would be an asset
University Degree in Risk Management, Insurance, Finance, Business Management or related field or equivalent experience
Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage key stakeholders and support risk management initiatives
Excellent time management skills and have the ability to work independently
Ability to work in team environments and with remote team members
Ability to work in a fast-paced rapidly changing environment with competing deadlines
Excellent written and oral communication with the ability to present to all staff levels including management
