The Applications Engineer will be based at our manufacturing facility in Frankfort, IL. The Applications Engineer will identify customer requirements and complex technical specifications and provide them technical solutions. This position draws from product expertise to evaluate and test current programs and to identify areas of improvement. The Applications Engineer shares knowledge with the customer and the engineering team, proactively identifies customer pain points and leads product improvements for the Motion product lines.

+ Reviews product application designs for compliance with engineering principles, customer contract requirements and related specifications.

+ Reviews/designs product into customer applications using ITW Tools (i.e.: gear trax, working models, time studies, and kinematics, etc.).

+ Leads customer / ITW designs for tooling and product functional feasibility, where applicable. Presents results to customer.

+ Addresses any product or applications issues or concerns with the customer as they arise.

+ Prepares new product cost breakdown with the support of operations.

+ Coordinates and performs activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems.

+ Assists in the evaluation and approval of design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.

+ Manages and leads overall projects by applying the APQP process with a cross functional team.

+ Applies ITW Toolbox to assure proper execution of projects from the design to manufacturing.

+ Creates detailed budget and controls expenditures within the limitations of the project budget

+ Assists and understands the corrective action process related to manufacturing and design.

+ Secures competitive tooling quotes, sources new tools and tracks tool build timing to assure due dates are met for new products or product evolutions (including customer funded tooling CAPEX).

+ Responsible for data transfers between customers and suppliers.

+ Interact with customers and vendors through the phases of current product application design and for manufacturing process as new products are developed and launched.

+ Acts as the internal and external trusted advisor to address customer product/application needs.

+ Proactively seeks and identifies product improvement and evolution opportunities. Works cross-functionally with operations, sales and CBI team to help implement new products.

+ Performs product and application testing to support new applications, R&D and product validation.

+ Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Technology or equivalent experience.

+ Minimum of 5 years Engineering work experience

+ Working knowledge of CAD (SolidWorks or CATIA)

+ Project Management experience required

+ Excellent organization and interpersonal skills

+ Excellent oral and written communication skills

+ Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word and Excel

+ Ability to travel up to 20%
