Who we are looking for:
We are currently looking for an Automation Engineer to be based out of Harvey, IL or Hobart, IN. Reporting to Electrical Engineering Manager, this person will be responsible for driving standardization of equipment and processes and recommending methods, materials and layouts for improvement based on manufacturing needs and capabilities.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent degree in electrical engineering, instrumentation engineering, engineering management, or closely related field. Experience in lean manufacturing or business system-based company is a requirement.

What you'll do:
Drive and support the business' productivity improvements and best practices.
Collaborate on and oversee various projects and provide documentation and schedules for improvement project.
Plan and evaluate integration of new or upgraded equipment.
Assist Manufacturing in various improvement projects, such as Lean Manufacturing, Process Improvements and Problem Solving.
Provide bid and costing details on electrical projects as well as Gantt charts showing project progress.
Draw and provide schematics and documentation for skill trades groups, along with development of trouble shooting guidelines.
Participate in Continuous Improvement Activities.
Assist with maintaining current plant electrical infrastructure. Ensure plant electrical equipment remains up to safety codes.
Provide troubleshooting direction to E-Techs and Electricians in troubleshooting situations.
Drive standardization of Equipment and Processes.
Recommend methods, materials and layouts for improvement based on manufacturing needs and capabilities.
What you'll bring:
Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Engineering Management, or closely related field.
5 years (60 months) of progressive, post-bachelor's experience with all the following (All experience may be gained concurrently.):
Programming, calibrating, restructuring, and troubleshooting PLCs (Programmable Logic Controller).
Working with automation including troubleshooting electrical and robotics problems, conducting root-cause analysis, and resolving issues.
Working with VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives) ensure they are properly functioning and to visualize control parameters.
Programming robots including for new stack patterns, overload protection, axis slip, bag rejection, and pick/place points.
Configuring and calibrating levels, flow, radar, ultrasonic, capacitance, and temperature sensors and transmitters.
Utilizing all the following tools/technologies: AutoCAD, SCADA (Supervisory control and data acquisition), HMIs (Human Machine Interfaces,) RSLogix 500, RSLogix 5000, Allen Bradley Kinetix 6000, Rockwell Automation, and Lean Manufacturing.

Within 3 months, you'll:
Complete your Atkore immersion program.
Understand how your job will help deliver Atkore's strategy.
Gain an understanding of your teammates and areas supported.

Within 6 months, you'll:
Ensure proper operation of equipment and teach others the proper use of this equipment.
Assist in continuous improvement projects within the facility, including participating in Kaizen.
Start identifying cost saving projects and their impact on the business.

Within 12 months, you'll:
Manage projects by developing plans, quotes/estimates, and schedules.
Maintain process guidelines and training programs for the integration of new products and systems.
Support operations by leading and directing technical activities necessary to solve problems encountered in any part of the facility.
