Overview
Our Illinois Migrant Educational Services program delivers non-credit instruction and supplemental supports to parents and children of migratory farmworkers in Illinois. Duties of the Parent Coordinator will include parent resource and referrals within communities and statewide along with the development and delivery of parent educational sessions and presenting at various statewide conferences.
Position Summary
This position will be primarily focused on tasks which support and supplement parent needs of migratory farmworkers. The skill most-valued in the Parent Coordinator is in building trusting relationships with migratory farmworkers. The Coordinator must be bilingual for both speaking and writing in Spanish, must have reliable transportation (travel reimbursed) and must be willing to drive statewide if needed to deliver parent education. Skills are also needed in resource and referrals for basic needs like housing, food insecurity, daycare, creating networks of local and statewide resources to deploy as needed. Parent Coordinator will also help with communication with school districts, ensuring that children are enrolled and receiving their rightful services from school districts. All work is focused on equity and academic and supplemental supports for migratory farmworker children, including out of school youth.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Serves as the primary Administrator of the following programs: Invest in You, Stock Market Game, Economics Concepts Poster Contest, in addition to new programs within the Illinois State Treasurer's Financial Literacy initiative which includes Money Minded and Money Fairs.
Supervises the development and operation of the programs.
Creates the programmatic framework to ensure that the Illinois Social Studies Standards (particularly financial literacy, economics and inquiry) and other Illinois educational learning policies are incorporated into the Council's programs and curriculum.
Designs and develops curriculum by grade level to fall within standards alignment.
Creates workshops and professional development events throughout the state to educate teachers about the new standards and provides materials allowing teachers to incorporate the standards effectively into their classroom (financial literacy is an emerging standard under state educational policy and is particularly challenging for elementary teachers who have zero familiarity with the concept).
Works with external funders to launch pilots of programs and develops a strategy to roll out the concepts statewide.
Directs the work of program coordinators to ensure that each of their programs meet standards criteria and that coordinators are held accountable for effectively executing their programs.
Serves as department director in the absence of department's Executive Director (who is required to be out of the office three days per week).
Develops budgets for individual programs and ensures that budgets are maintained. Identifies and works with external funders for program support.
Participates in regularly scheduled meetings with external Illinois Council for Economic Education Board of Trustees.
Prepares statistical data and metrics to display how program goals are being achieved, gathers and analyzes relevant data to be used in both external and internal presentations.
Provides supervisory and departmental functions in the Executive Director's absence.
Provides input to the leadership of the Council that assures ongoing delivery of quality and professional economic, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship education programs.
