About the Role
The Equipment Specialist position secures ocean carrier and railroad equipment for the movement of domestic cargo. The position is responsible for the strategic planning of equipment that adds value to the services that are offered to the customer. It is responsible for the negotiation of repositioning fees that are ultimately assessed to ocean carrier customers.
What you'll do:
Responsible for managing specific Matson 53' markets, inventory, reporting, invoicing, and related tasks.
Negotiates rates with our Matson 53' depots, vendors, and drayage partners.
Maintains Matson 53' and domestic repo supplier inventories and communicates equipment availability to Customer Service Representatives, Pricing Analysts, and Sales personnel.
Negotiates with repo suppliers for capacity and buydowns.
Works with pricing to support our domestic repo business as well as conversion of current 40' business to repo.
Receives and fulfills orders from Customers and Sales personnel and identifies sources for and procures equipment.
Develops and implements an equipment use strategy.
Develops drayage and railroad equipment contacts to assist Customer Service, Sales, Pricing, and other departments in securing domestic equipment.
Researches and creates accessorials for our Matson 53' fleet, Repo Suppliers as well as Blume expired and cancelled reservation charges for Accounting.
Updates and maintains per diem and storage costs summary worksheets.
Complies with all company rules, policies, and procedures. Works and behaves safely by following all safety rules and regulations.
Performs any task required to support customer requirements and company goals.
You have these qualifications:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and three (3) or more years of related industry experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Must consistently demonstrate professional and pleasant behavior and effectively communicate in stressful situations and/or environments.
Strong interpersonal and demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including excellent telephone skills.
Strong ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks.
Must work well with others, including vendors, suppliers, and internal and external customers to achieve common goals.
Ability to adapt to rapidly changing customer requests and requirements and to manage seasonally heavy workloads.
Must possess a working knowledge of MS Office programs or other comparable computer software programs.
Must possess and exercise excellent customer service skills at all times.
Demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.
Ability to organize people and processes and to manage multiple priorities.
Ability to analyze and solve problems at the strategic and functional levels and to develop procedural changes.
Previous transportation industry experience and an in-depth knowledge of the intermodal transportation industry.
Ability to develop relationships with key suppliers and carriers and to gain extensive knowledge of equipment availability and processes in the intermodal/transportation industry.
Extra credit if you have:
Degree in transportation, business administration or related field.
The annual salary range for this position in California is $60,000 - $85,000. The salary offered will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
