This Director of Public Relations oversees media relations, communications, photo and video content development, and institutional communications (not including social media). This position contributes to the success of Brookfield Zoo Chicago ("BZC") by bolstering Brookfield Zoo Chicago's reputation as a leader in animal care and welfare, science, conservation, environmental education, and as a world-class destination. Additionally, this role will support initiatives that drive attendance and revenue.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Media Relations:
Develop and implement media relations strategies to enhance Brookfield Zoo Chicago's visibility and reputation.
Cultivate and maintain relationships with local, national, and international media outlets.
Coordinate and manage media inquiries, press releases, and media events.
Monitor media coverage and provide reports on the effectiveness of media campaigns.
Manage the Zoo's online newsroom and press materials, such as expert bios and fact sheets.
Communications:
Oversee the creation and distribution of engaging and informative content across various platforms, including content based upon scientific research, veterinary practices, and large- scale environmental threats (e.g., climate change, plastic pollution, etc.).
Ensure consistent and accurate messaging that aligns with Brookfield Zoo Chicago's mission and values.
Collaborate with BZC departments to gather and disseminate information relevant to public relations efforts.
Work with the Associate Vice President of Communications to plan external communications efforts long term.

Photo and Video Content Development:
Lead the development of high-quality photo and video content that showcases Brookfield Zoo Chicago's programs, events, and initiatives.
Manage a team of photographers and videographers to ensure timely and creative content production.
Oversee the archival and organization of photo and video assets.
Manage licensing of photo and video assets and oversee filming requests and shoots from external entities.
Institutional Communications:
Develop and implement communication strategies that promote and advance Brookfield Zoo Chicago's institutional priorities, such as developing thought-leadership opportunities for Zoo experts and leaders, creating written narratives and fact sheets about the Zoo's commitments to conservation and education, and more.
Draft speeches, talking points, and presentations for leadership.
Ensure clear and effective internal communications to keep staff informed and engaged with institutional goals.

Reputation Management:
Promote Brookfield Zoo Chicago 's achievements in animal care, welfare, science, and conservation.
Position Brookfield Zoo Chicago as a leader in environmental education and a top-tier destination for visitors.
Manage crisis communications and serve as a spokesperson when necessary.

Attendance and Revenue Initiatives:
Support efforts to increase zoo attendance and revenue.
Collaborate with the Marketing team to develop campaigns and promotions that drive visitor engagement.
Evaluate the impact of public relations activities on attendance and revenue goals.

Other:
