Job Summary
Under the direction of the Department of Psychiatry Chair and the Child/Adolescent Psychiatry Division Chair, the Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist will provide psychiatric assessment and management of patients with co-morbid medical disease and behavioral problems.Provides initial psychiatric consultations in outpatient, inpatient, and emergency settings throughout Cook County Health (CCH).Provides ongoing medication management to patients in outpatient psychiatry clinics and to patients in John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital (JSH) including Juvenile Temporary Detention Center (JTDC) as needed.

Typical Duties
*Provides general psychiatric assessments to referred patients and ongoing medication management to these patients.
*Provides assessment of children in terms of psychopathology, development, culture, and family.Work with each child in context of his/her family unit.Provide additional clinical service to disorders that span from childhood to adulthood (including mental retardation, ADHD, and mood disorders).
*Provides education to patients, families, students, medical residents and clinic staff regarding mental health screening and treatment within a medical practice.
*Provides clinical guidance to non-physician clinical staff members and team.
*Documents all encounters with patients in medical record and communicate diagnoses and treatment recommendations to appropriate medical staff.Report any suspected child abuse or neglect (in accordance with Illinois State law, CCH' Child Abuse and Neglect policies, and CCH Child Protective Services' procedures).
*Maintains active licensure with the State of Illinois and active credentials with CCH and JTDC.Maintain active board certification with the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and active subspecialty certification in the area of Child Psychiatry.
*Attends required meetings and participates in assigned committees.Participate in necessary peer review and quality assurance activities. Engage in Ongoing Provider Performance Evaluation within the Department.
*Provides psychiatric consultation and care to all CCH sites, including JSH and JTDC.Primary site is anticipated to be JSH.
*Participates in quality improvement activities and professional development activities.
*Performs other duties as assigned and within the scope of practice.

Minimum Qualifications
*Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited program
*Licensed as a physician in the State of Illinois or ability to obtain physician license two prior to stating employment
*Illinois and Federal controlled substance license or eligibility to obtain license two (2) weeks prior to starting employment
*Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology or must obtain Board Certification within two (2) years of starting this employment
*Completion of a General Psychiatry Residency
*Completion of child/adolescent psychiatry fellowship from accredited program
*Experience and knowledge with gender, age, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, SES, substance abuse and medical issues of the treatment population served.
*Experience providing emergency and inpatient psychiatric consultations to medically ill patients.
*Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification
*Must be able to travel to CCH work sites

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
*Knowledge of all applicable departmental, Cook County, state, and federal regulations regarding patient care.
*Knowledge of age-specific and culture-specific differences in the target population, including physiological, psychological, cultural, and developmental differences in each group.
*Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate with all levels
of staff and a patient population composed of diverse cultures and age groups
*Skills in teaching and supervising psychiatry medical students.
