What You’ll Do

The Strategic Communications Principal will play a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s payments business narrative and enhancing visibility of strategic initiatives. Responsible for overseeing strategic communications, this role encompasses the development and execution of comprehensive communication strategies. From leading critical communications, ensuring internal stakeholders have the key messaging necessary for client communications to also managing external reputational risk through key communication initiatives, the Strategic Communications Principal will be instrumental in elevating mission-driven presence and success locally, regionally, nationally and at times internationally.

How You’ll Do It

A successful Strategic Communications Principal at Discover Network is dynamic, strategic and able to flex across programs, driving the organization’s mission through impactful messaging and engagement with diverse audiences. You are able to be both proactive and reactive, can strategize and execute, and can tell impactful stories in a creative, yet polished manner. You are able to navigate a highly matrixed organization to ensure stakeholder perspectives are accurately reflected in processes and communications. You are energized and excited to build out foundational communications processes and norms across the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

+ Develop and implement strategic communications plans and messaging strategies

+ Collaborate within a matrixed organization to develop and execute programmatic communication strategies that amplify messages, engage stakeholders and support multi-media tactics.

+ Monitor and assess the effectiveness of communications and related campaigns, adjusting strategy and tactics accordingly.

+ Capture and produce thoughtful stories to communicate programmatic impact to nuanced audiences across diverse channels.

+ Document key learnings and publish case studies, playbooks, and toolkits that bring value to external stakeholders and audiences.

+ Field inquiries and respond or route to the appropriate parties; support crisis/critical communications as needed.

+ Ensure proper use of organizational and program-based brand identities.

+ Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies to facilitate thought leadership.

+ Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications You’ll Need:

The Basics:

+ Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, or related field

+ 6+ years of relevant communications experience, ideally supporting internal and external audiences working closely with Corporate Communications, Operational Communications and Communication agencies including crisis/real-time communications.

Bonus Points If You Have

+ In lieu of education, 8+ years of experience in Journalist, PR Agency Account Representative, Communications Coordinator, or related field

+ Proven experience executing critical communications strategies.

+ A background in financial services or payments is preferred

+ Experience interpreting analytics and employing metrics to tell a story / inform decision.

+ Experience in managing communications programming across multiple initiatives, clients, organizations or constituents, with the ability to adjust and meet stakeholders and audiences where they are.

+ Excellent writing skills with the ability to produce work samples in support of candidacy.

+ Ability to operate at a strategic level, coupled with the willingness to do whatever it takes to execute in the day-to-day

+ Ability to quickly learn complex topics and communicate them effectively to different audiences.

+ Strong writing and editing skills with a keen eye for detail.

+ Exceptional organizational and project management skills.

+ Positive, adaptable mindset and thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Compensation:

The base pay for this position generally ranges between $88,500.00 to $149,300.00. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a market competitive total compensation package. Factors, such as but not limited to, geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.
