The Opportunity

We have an immediate opening for a Procurement Manager. This role may be based in either Abbott Park, IL or Willis Tower, Chicago, IL.

As the Procurement Manager, Plastics, you will partner with business stakeholders to define and implement the Plastics category strategy and drive our “One Abbott Procurement” vision and priorities. This position reports to the Senior Procurement Manager, Plastics.

What You’ll Work On

+ Strategic Management & Relationship Building:

+ Serve as the primary point of contact for global plastics category needs.

+ Nurture stakeholder relationships as a leader and business partner.

+ Translate business vision into an aligned category strategy with an execution roadmap.

+ Market Analysis & Strategy Adaptation:

+ Monitor market dynamics and the supplier competitive landscape.

+ Update category strategy as needed to reflect market changes and ensure strategic alignment across business units.

+ Continuous Improvement & Innovation:

+ Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities for the category.

+ Advance sourcing design, process mapping, innovation, and cost efficiencies.

+ Supplier Management & Cost Optimization:

+ Provide insights on developing and leveraging supplier capabilities.

+ Ensure a balance between value for money and cost savings, maintaining quality.

+ Drive reductions in the Total Cost of Ownership reductions through analytics.

+ Operational Excellence & Performance Measurement:

+ Own and execute sourcing strategies for the category.

+ Measure and track category performance, striving for best-in-class benchmarks.

+ Collaboration & Leadership:

+ Partner with procurement staff across divisions and foster a collaborative environment.

+ Collaborate with direct-material procurement colleagues to establish best practices related to core strategic sourcing activities and approaches.

+ Lead initiatives across virtual teams and cultures.

+ Mentor, train, and develop talent within the procurement team.

Required Qualifications:

+ Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business administration, engineering, or other technical discipline.

+ 6+ years of experience within procurement, supply chain management, engineering, or project management.

+ Experience leading teams.

+ Strong communication skills (written and verbal).

+ Strong project management skills, including ability to develop actionable plans.

+ Technical knowledge of plastics manufacturing processes (injection molding, blow molding, extrusions, etc.).

Desired Qualifications:

+ Master’s degree in business administration (MBA) or relevant certification (e.g., CPSM, CPM, PMP)

+ Relevant business process knowledge, as related to procurement and category management.

+ Strong interdisciplinary, intercultural, influence, and networking skills.

+ Knowledge of markets by regions, international experience.

+ Strong influence and negotiating skills.

+ Strong contracting skills.

+ Experience with supplier management.

The base pay for this position is $95,000.00 – $190,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
