SMX is seeking a talented Staff Accountant to join our dynamic team as we grow. The responsibilities revolve around a wide-range of accounting functions that play a crucial role ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data. The Staff Accountant will be heavily involved in providing best practices, policies, procedures, key controls, and transactional oversight to various entities within a private-equity backed firm. This role will report directly to the General Ledger Accounting Manager.

Responsibilities:

- Support all general ledger tasks including monthly close and journal entries for multiple legal entities

- Perform monthly account reconciliations for multiple legal entities of sub ledgers/calculated schedules against general ledger and assess for reasonableness of ending balances

- Assist in the preparation of the monthly financial package and ensure all transactions are properly supported and approved

- Monitor daily cash activity

- Enter cash receipts

- Support preparation and filing of local and state tax reporting, business licenses and permits

- Support year-end internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and support

- Provide support to the Controller Support team where needed and perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

- Bachelor’s Degree required. Preference will be given to candidates with a BS in Accounting, but Finance and other Business Administration degrees will be considered

- 2+ years of accounting experience

- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills

- Must be detail-oriented and able to work under pressure to meet deadlines

- Strong interpersonal skills

- Strong and effective communication, both written and verbal

- Experience working with Government Contract regulations (FAR / CAS)

- Experience with Deltek Costpoint

US Citizenship required for work under DoD contracts.
